Team Falcons Edge Out Team Vitality to Secure IEM Cologne Major 2026 Semifinals

Day 2 of CS2 IEM Cologne Major 2026 Playoffs kicked off with a record-setting three-map thriller between G2 and Team Spirit. Following the nerve-wrecking series was another nail-biter, Team Falcons taking on the tournament favorites—Team Vitality. 

Team Falcons Secure IEM Cologne Major 2026 Semifinals

While Team Falcons entered the match-up with a dominant H2H record over Vitality in 2026, many expected them to falter. Especially given the limited time they had with their IGL, karrigan, their opponents seemed to be simply above their weight-class. But the ‘superstar’ squad had other plans.

Propelled by kyousuke’s pistol 4k, Falcons started the series with a clean 5-0 on Anubis CT-side.

Their opponents, the apEX-led squad, answered back promptly to tie the half at 6-6.  

The momentum Vitality gained in the first half coupled with the second-half pistol win, helped them secure double-digits and push Falcons to the absolute limit. But karrigan's calling unleashed kyousuke once again, opening up the Vitality defense, to secure their map choice 13-11. 

Inferno was much the same story. Despite Vitality's strong T-side, m0NESY- and previously scrutinized karrigan-kyousuke B defense kept Falcons afloat for yet another 6-6 first half. 

Falcons won the second pistol round but failed to convert the follow-up, allowing Vitality to secure an early lead in the second half. Despite Falcons almost mounting a comeback, Vitality’s experience prevailed as they forced a third and final map.

Contrary to the first two maps, Dust 2’s first half had a clear victor—Team Falcons. Despite multiple scrappy buy rounds, they kept Vitality’s defense guessing, and secured an 8-4 lead to close the half. 

The lead, however, was quickly cut to 8-6, but karrigan's heroics helped Falcons extend it to 11 rounds. With every Vitality member showing signs of life, though, the comeback was on.

Just when the arena thought there wouldn't be any more twists in the series, Falcons pulled off a FaZe-like round to secure series point. And despite a ropz-ZywOo 2v3 forcing the final round of regulation, Falcons' defense closed out the map to claim the last semifinal spot.

Their 2-1 win also extends their flawless streak to 4-0 over Vitality. But karrigan and co. cannot breathe a sigh of relief just yet, as tomorrow they face another title contender—Team Spirit. 

Cologne Major Semifinals Incoming

The IEM Cologne Major 2026 action doesn’t stop, tomorrow Team Falcons will face Team Spirit in another Bo3 for a Grand Finals spot. But before that, the Turkish and Brazilian representatives—Aurora and FURIA—will go head to head to kickoff of the semifinals.
