According to Esports Charts, the tournament passed 76.2 million hours watched and became the most-watched Counter-Strike event in history, helped by a three-week format and 32-team field that kept broadcasts running almost every day.

IEM Cologne Major 2026 becomes the most watched CS event

The tournament‑level record relates to total watch time rather than peak concurrency. Esports Charts lists IEM Cologne Major 2026 at 76,200,755 hours watched, with over 140 hours of live broadcast.

While the event’s overall peak sits around 2,044,763 concurrent viewers, the accumulated watch time across three weeks lifted Cologne above earlier Majors in the all‑time ranking for total hours watched. In other words, the Cologne Major record concerns how long audiences stayed with the event rather than a single spike similar to PGL Stockholm 2021’s 2.7 million peak.

Format and duration behind the hours watched record

IEM Cologne Major 2026 runs from June 2 to June 21 in Cologne, with matches split between the Palladium and LANXESS Arena and a field of 32 teams. The tournament's structure of three stages, which increases the total number of broadcast days and series, makes a world of difference when compared to older Major formats with smaller team counts and shorter calendars.

Added to that, Stage 3 also moved to all best‑of‑three series and one-day extension, a change that further raised airtime for the decisive phase of the Major. When combined with co‑streaming growth and consistently strong Counter-Strike numbers across 2025 and early 2026, this structure produced a much longer broadcast (that still has two more days), and helps explain how Cologne reached a record total of more than 67 million hours watched.

G2 vs. Spirit Clash Set CS2 Peak Viewership Record

Taken together, the data shows another record at the LANXESS. The G2 vs Team Spirit quarterfinal pushed CS2 to a new high in single‑match peak viewership. Breaching the 2.0 M mark for the first time since the esport's transition to the latest title.

While the Cologne Major’s extended schedule and large team pool supported a new all‑time mark in cumulative hours watched across the tournament. Given this is still the quarterfinals, the record still has a bit more room to get even further from the previous events it already surpassed.

How the XSE Pro League 2026 Became CS2's Biggest Disaster

Nobody expected the 2026 XSE Pro League to become the disaster it is right now, and that stings even more given the $1,000,000 prize pool attached to it. What was pitched as a big new stop on the Counter-Strike 2 calendar has instead spiraled into so much dysfunction that the community built an entire compilation thread just to keep up with it all.
