jL Confirmed as Vitality Stand-In for Two Upcoming Events

Following a day of swirling rumors, it is now official: former Natus Vincere Counter-Strike 2 player and Major-winning MVP Justinas "jL" Lekavičius will suit up for Team Vitality at BLAST Open Porto and PGL Masters Bucharest.

The Lithuanian rifler broke the news himself on stream, joking, "Finally I don't have to cover the fact that I can play with ZywOo, ropz, mezii, apEX, flameZ, MrBaldGuy," poking fun at Vitality head coach Rémy "XTQZZZ" Quoniam in the process.

Reports indicate jL will replace mezii for BLAST Open Porto before switching roles to stand in for in-game leader apEX at PGL Masters Bucharest.

Both absences stem from personal reasons, as mezii and apEX are each expecting the birth of a child around this period. Notably, it remains unclear who will step into the IGL position for Vitality once apEX steps away, leaving a tactical question unanswered heading into Bucharest.

Not His First Rodeo as a Stand-In

This will not be jL's first experience filling in for a tier-1 roster. While riding the bench at NaVi, he was loaned to Team Liquid for the Roman Imperium Cup VI, replacing NertZ, who couldn't travel to the event.

More memorably, jL donned the MOUZ jersey for PGL Astana 2026 and the CS Asia Championship 2026, helping the German org secure third-place finishes at both.

Those results stood as MOUZ's best of the year until the team broke through with their first 2026 trophy at BLAST Bounty Summer 2026 just days ago. jL's track record as a reliable substitute makes him a logical choice for Vitality's current predicament.

Vitality's Rocky Recent Form

Team Vitality's timing for this stand-in arrangement comes amid a difficult stretch. Since their last title at BLAST Rivals Spring 2026, the squad has struggled, finishing 5th-6th at IEM Atlanta 2026 and getting knocked out by eventual champions Falcons in 5th-8th place at the Cologne Major.

The situation worsened further at the BLAST Bounty Summer 2026 Closed Qualifier, where an upset loss to Team Liquid saw Vitality eliminated in the 17th-32nd range, effectively last place among qualifying teams.

Vitality's last finish outside the top 8 came at IEM Katowice 2024, where Heroic eliminated them in 13th-16th place. Since then, the org had gone a whopping 911 days without dropping below the top 8 at any event until now. It's a stark drop for a roster long considered among the world's elite.

Is this a hint at a different Vitality line-up?

Vitality's decision to bring in jL reflects both necessity and pragmatism, given the personal circumstances facing mezii and apEX. While the org's recent form has been shaky, jL's proven history as a dependable stand-in, including two podium finishes with MOUZ, offers a glimmer of stability during an otherwise turbulent stretch.

Whether he can help steady the ship at BLAST Open Porto and PGL Masters Bucharest remains to be seen, but for a team searching for answers, his arrival couldn't come at a more relevant time.
