Two weeks ago, 32 teams arrived in Germany for one of the biggest Counter-Strike tournaments of the year— the IEM Cologne Major 2026. After the dust settled on the three stages of intense competition, we got the final 8 teams that will set foot in the LANXESS Arena before one of them lifts the trophy.

Teams Qualified for Cologne Major 2026 Playoffs

After the dust settled on the IEM Cologne Major 2026 Stage, the following eight teams were left standing:

FURIA

Despite the doubts surrounding the team’s performance coming into the Major, FURIA and FalleN have gotten off to a strong start, securing the Playoffs without sweating. We have seen the team’s peak in 2025, and if they can tap into that form, they can make a deep run.

Team Spirit

Despite missing their coaches, Team Spirit has been tearing the competition apart. The Russian squad waltzed through Stages 2 and 3. 9z did push the squad to the limit, but they clutched up to secure a clean qualification. Moreover, this Team Spirit does not live or die by donk, but the rest of the squad, and especially IGL magixx, are putting up stellar performances.

Aurora Gaming

Aurora has to be one of the biggest surprises of Stage 3. The team has struggled leading up to the Major, but they have absolutely dominated their opponents (except Team Spirit) to secure the Playoffs. The team looks in a much stronger form than they have in the past two years and has the potential to upset any team they face in the Playoffs.

Team Vitality

The defending champions come into the Major with shaky form. Their Swiss stage run, especially the loss to 9z, has raised doubts regarding their ability to secure the three-peat. But if this is the same Team Vitality we know, they will bounce back for the Playoffs and will look to reach the Grand Finals.

Team Falcons

Similar to Vitality, Falcons’ Swiss run was extremely shaky. They did defeat G2 Esports and NAVI, but they were swept by BetBoom. Even the games they won relied on their superstars winning the rounds based on their individuality. This might help them win over weaker teams, but if they face a Spirit, Vitality, or FURIA, they will struggle.

9z

9z is on a warpath. Despite facing some of the strongest teams during Stage 3, the squad did not back down and even defeated Team Vitality. Their run at Cologne would go down in the history books. They now set foot in LANXESS, the biggest stage of their life, and if they can handle the pressure, they could deliver a shock.

BetBoom

BetBoom’s journey at the Cologne Major 2026 started in Stage 1, and they have continued marching forward, taking down opponents to secure the Playoffs. They have struggled against stronger opposition, but the experience would help them make a better Playoff run.

G2 Esports

Coming into the Major, G2’s performance hasn’t been the best, especially after they brought in NertZ to replace MalbsMd. But at Cologne, they silenced the doubters by sweeping Stage 2 and then clinching the Playoffs after a close victory over NAVI. They might not look like the best team on the server, but G2’s resilience helps them close out the games.

Opening Matches & Playoffs Bracket

Teams are seeded into the 8-team single-elimination bracket based on their Stage 3 performance.

The IEM Cologne Major 2026 Playoffs bracket is:

The lower side of the bracket features the current top 4 VRS teams and is heavier. It also means only one of the top teams—Spirit, G2, Vitality, or Falcons—will make it to the Grand Finals.

On the other side of the bracket, FURIA stands atop as the favorites, allowing FalleN the chance to secure back-to-back Cologne Majors.

How the XSE Pro League 2026 Became CS2's Biggest Disaster

Nobody expected the 2026 XSE Pro League to become the disaster it is right now, and that stings even more given the $1,000,000 prize pool attached to it. What was pitched as a big new stop on the Counter-Strike 2 calendar has instead spiraled into so much dysfunction that the community built an entire compilation thread just to keep up with it all.
