FURIA and Aurora will meet in the first semifinal of the IEM Cologne Major 2026 of CS2 at the LANXESS Arena. The Brazilians are coming off a hard-fought 2-1 win over 9z that ended years of Major playoff frustrations. Meanwhile, Aurora swept BetBoom without much trouble and look like a team that has found their footing at exactly the right time.

Four Years Too Long

Let's be real: FURIA's path to this semifinal wasn't exactly a quiet stroll. The Brazilians had to grind through a tense 2-1 victory over 9z in the quarterfinals, dropping Dust2 before recovering with a convincing 13-9 on Mirage and then closing things out on Overpass. It wasn't perfect, but it was enough. And for a team that hadn't won a single Major playoff match since 2022, it felt like a dam breaking.

The IEM Rio Major in 2022 was the last time FURIA tasted playoff success at a Major. Four years. That drought ended in Cologne, and the team looked genuinely liberated after the 9z series.

Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo's leadership has been a constant key piece throughout this run, with the veteran IGL pulling the strings on a roster that blends Brazilian core with international firepower. Danil "molodoy" Golubenko continues to be a nightmare on the AWP, and the arrival of Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis gave the team an explosive entry fragger they simply didn't have before.

Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato and Yuri "yuurih" Santos round out a lineup that has no obvious weak link on paper. The question isn't whether FURIA can compete at this level, it's whether they can sustain it for one more best-of-three and a brutal best-of-five against teams that have looked almost unstoppable.

No Map Dropped, No Mercy Given

Aurora didn't ease their way into the semifinals. They kicked the door down. A clean 2-0 win over BetBoom in the quarterfinals showed that this team is not messing around. After an early stumble against Team Spirit in Stage 3, they bounced back by dismantling G2 and 9z, riding that momentum all the way through to the last eight.

The engine driving Aurora is Ismailcan "XANTARES" Dörtkardeş, one of the most mechanically gifted riflers in all of CS2. His famous 'ferrari peek' has been destroying opponents for years and, at this Major, he has looked every bit as dangerous as ever. Özgür "woxic" Eker brings veteran AWP support, while Engin "MAJ3R" Küpeli, Caner "soulfly" Kesici, and Ali Haydar "Wicadia" Yalçın complete a roster that signed on together from Eternal Fire and has had time to build real chemistry.

Aurora's rotations have been crisp, their setups structured, and their clutch moments decisive. BetBoom barely had an answer for them across both maps, and that kind of dominant display heading into a semifinal is the sort of thing that keeps opponents up the night before a match.

FURIA-Aurora: Aggression Meets Discipline

This matchup is a fascinating tactical puzzle. FURIA loves to play fast and aggressive, with YEKINDAR setting the tempo, molodoy holding angles with the AWP, and KSCERATO and yuurih cleaning up the mid-round chaos. It's a system that works when everyone is clicking, but it can unravel quickly if Aurora's structure manages to absorb the early pressure.

Aurora, by contrast, are more deliberate. XANTARES is the wild card who can break any setup in a single second, but the team as a whole tends to stick within their system. If they can slow FURIA down and force half-buy rounds, the Turkish side has the firepower to punish every lapse in concentration. Map veto will be critical as always, FURIA have looked sharp on Mirage and Overpass, while Aurora's Nuke performance against BetBoom was clinical.

FURIA vs Aurora Semifinals Prediction

The winner of this semifinal will be waiting to find out who they face in the grand final. On the other side of the bracket, Team Spirit take on G2 Esports, and Team Falcons clash with defending champions Team Vitality.

Our pick? FURIA advances, but not without a fight. Aurora is not the kind of team that hands anything away, and XANTARES on a good day can single-handedly flip a map. The head-to-head doesn't help Aurora either, with FURIA already sweeping them 2-0 at IEM Krakow earlier this year.

The Brazilians have the structure, the experience, and the momentum to close this out, but counting on a clean series would be naive. Expect a hard-fought 2-1 in FURIA's favor.
