The opening matchups for Worlds 2026 have been decided. The League of Legends World Championship Play-In draw took place on Saturday, October 10, following the CBLOL 2026 Grand Final, determining the first-round matchups.

FURIA, MVK Esports, Cloud9 Kia, and Karmine Corp will compete in the Play-In Stage, with only one team advancing to the Swiss Stage. Meanwhile, LOS secured a direct Swiss Stage berth after defeating FURIA 3-2 in the CBLOL final.

Worlds 2026 Play-In Opening Matchups

The draw determined the two opening series of the Play-In Stage, scheduled for October 15 to 18. Here are the matchups:

The draw was completely random, with no seeding pots or regional restrictions. Any of the four teams could have faced one another in the opening round.

Only one team will advance to the Swiss Stage, joining the 15 teams that have already qualified directly. Check out the full list of teams qualified for Worlds 2026.

What Is the Worlds 2026 Play-In Format?

The Worlds 2026 Play-In Stage features a double-elimination bracket, with every series played as a best-of-five (Bo5). Teams can lose one series and remain in contention, but a second loss means elimination.

The opening winners move on through the upper bracket, while the losing teams drop to the lower bracket. Only one of the four teams will ultimately qualify for the Swiss Stage, which begins on October 23.

When Does Worlds 2026 Start?

Worlds 2026 begins on October 15 with the Play-In Stage at the Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles, California. Matches will run through October 18, with play scheduled to begin at 11 AM PT (2 PM ET) each day.

The tournament then moves to Allen, Texas, for the Swiss Stage from October 23 to 31. The Knockout Stage begins on November 3, with the Grand Final scheduled for November 14 in Brooklyn, New York.
