Valve Releases New Meepo Hotfix For Item Duplication Bug
The “Dota 2 beta” meme lives on and another chapter of the game's history is written after Valve fixes yet anoter Meepo bug. Some heroes are a constant source of bugs and among the full lineup, Morphling, Rubick and Meepo are the most affected by these problems.
This time, Meepo had a bug where you could use branches and combinable items to generate infinite money, and by extension, completely break the game by getting full-slotted really early into matches.
CRITICAL BUG! Meepo again.

Abusing Item Combining
The item used as an example by Reddit user u/Bombad1ll is Sange and Yasha, but apparently the exploit works with any item that uses the combination mechanic. His original post includes a short list explaining how he was able to replicate items:
➜ Get Sange and Yasha.
➜ Fill your inventory with Iron Branches.
➜ Disable Sange auto-combine.
➜ Send Yasha to the courier.
➜ Move the courier away.
➜ Re-enable auto-combine and die.
➜ Recall the courier and drop Yasha into your stash.
After completing these steps, you would end up with a pile of Sange and Yashas that you could sell for virtually infinite gold and stomp entire teams with a six-slotted Meepo. This caused Valve to temporarily disable Meepo while working on a fix before the beginning of The International 2026.
Bugs Are Nothing New For Meepo
According to Esports Insider, Meepo has had at least three other instances of game-breaking bugs in 2026 alone. On March 27, Valve fixed a bug that allowed Meepo to crash servers by using two Armlets of Mordiggian. Just four days later, on March 31, another fix removed Meepo's ability to duplicate stackable, non-shareable items.

Finally, on July 3, Valve fixed another bug that allowed Meepo to duplicate Town Portal Scrolls and generate lots of gold by selling the duplicates, as demonstrated by Reddit user u/TaxPrevious7387. According to Tax, the issue was caused by a desynchronization between the main hero's inventory and the stash slot charge state when a clone consumed a scroll.
Last Chance For a Cleanup Before TI
The International 2026 is only a couple of weeks away, and this might be Valve's last opportunity to clean up game-breaking bugs before the tournament begins. While bugs are usually clarified and explicitly forbidden by tournament organizers, teams have abused exploits in the past, with the most famous example being the Pudge/Chen Fountain Hook combo at TI1.
It is unlikely that we will see another meta-defining exploit like Fountain Hook, but being cautious is never a bad idea when it comes to this small group of heroes that are especially prone to game-breaking bugs.
We have several players chasing their third Aegis this year, and it would be a shame to see their chances slip through their fingers because of a bug abuse controversy, especially in a season that already featured ESIC investigations during the Esports World Cup.
