VALORANT Patch 12.05: Map Pool and Lotus Changes Explained

VALORANT Patch 12.05: Map Pool and Lotus Changes Explained

VALORANT's Patch 12.05 brings changes to the competitive map pool alongside a targeted rework of Lotus's A-site, aimed at cleaning up some of the map's most exploited angles and chokepoints.

Map Pool Rotation

With the start of Act 2, Riot has refreshed the Competitive and Deathmatch map pool. Lotus and Fracture return to the rotation, while Abyss and Corrode are removed. The rotation signals Riot's continued confidence in Lotus as a competitively viable map, while giving players a break from Abyss and Corrode after their time in the pool.

Lotus A-Site Rework

While Riot expressed overall satisfaction with Lotus's place in the meta, several structural tweaks have been made to A-site specifically to reduce barrier-drop weapon spam and give attackers a fairer shot at contesting the lobby.

The key changes are:

  • Attacker lobby wall thickened: Wall penetration off the barrier drop has been completely removed, cutting off a popular spam angle that punished attackers before the round could even develop.

  • Jump up to Vines repositioned: The adjusted jump now gives attackers a better path out of the lobby, helping them avoid getting caught in ability dumps at the A-lobby choke at round start.

  • Tree room wall reinforced: Another wall penetration spot near the Tree room has been sealed off, further reducing long-range spam opportunities.

  • Extra room added outside A-site stairs: A new holding space outside the stairs gives defenders the option to play further back from rubble, adding defensive depth to a historically aggressive area.

  • A-site plant zone adjusted: Players can no longer plant for the breakable or link position, narrowing the spike placement options and tightening the post-plant dynamic on A-site.

What This Means for Players

Collectively, these changes push both sides toward more deliberate, position-based play on the A-site on Lotus. Attackers should get more reliable entry into the site without being punished purely by spam, while defenders gain new angles to hold without over-committing to rubble. Expect strategies around A-site to shift noticeably when the patch goes live on March 18.
