The International 2026 Day 2 Recap: China Makes A Comeback

The second day of The International 2026 is over, and the day featured quite a few surprises. The tournament concluded the second and third stages of groups, with some teams solidifying themselves at either the top or bottom of the bracket. 

Day 2 showcased some interesting comebacks, particularly for regions that struggled on day one. Let's take a look at how it all went down.

Mixed results for MENA

One of the regions we haven't talked about much is MENA. It houses Team Falcons, the defending champions, and Nigma Galaxy, arguably the most popular team in the world. The two teams have so far had very conflicting stories at The International. 

Team Falcons beat LGD in the opening round but then lost two series in a row against Vision and Iron Wing. The team needs at least one more victory to secure a spot in the next round. On the other hand, Nigma Galaxy lost their opening match with Iron Wing but haven't lost a game since, taking down LGD and OG in impressive 2-0 games. 

It's hard to judge the strength of Nigma, though, as they so far beat the arguably weakest team in the tournament and a team that just went through massive turmoil. However, it is clear that Nigma will at least compete in the elimination round, where one win separates them from a top eight finish.

No wins for South America and Southeast Asia

Two regions, which have a large fan base but inconsistent performance in LAN events, struggled on day two. OG Esports is now one of only two teams at the event with no victories to their names. Sad to say, OG hasn't even won a map yet, though some of their games have been very close.

LGD is in a slightly better spot due to one victory against Team Resilence yesterday. Still, they are currently 1-2 and need at least one victory to make it to the elimination round. Of the two teams, LGD has looked stronger, as they continue to do their best to integrate Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen in their lineup.

It's not all bad news for America, though. GamerLegion had a strong performance against two Chinese teams. They first took down Xtreme and then nearly beat Vici Gaming, if it weren't for an incredible 20k gold comeback by Vici in game 2. 

China recovers on Day 2 but still has a long way to go

At the conclusion of stage two, China had one victory in six series played, not quite the result the host region had hoped for. Yet they rallied well in the next round, as Xtreme Gaming, Vici Gaming, and Team Resilence all won their respective series. 

While a win is a win, Xtreme and Resilence took down OG and Huligani, the only two teams without a win to their name. Vici has fared significantly better. Their comeback against GamerLegion was an incredible show of mental fortitude and resilience. Their two victories also secure them a spot in the elimination round, another boon for the squad. 

While we haven't mentioned Europe, the region remains the strongest, and day two results have done nothing to dissuade that. With Round 4 happening tomorrow, we'll start seeing the first teams to make it to the playoffs and the first teams to go home.
