The Counter-Strike Lake Map is a small demolition-style map featured in several game modes in CS:GO, including Demolition, Arms Race, Flying Scoutsman, and Wingman. The action unfolds at a lakeside estate with an accessible interior and a wide, open outdoor area.

This guide covers the map’s layout, hot spots, effective tactics, and the best weapons to use.

Map Overview

Lake is set at a small estate beside a lake. The Terrorists are the Phoenix Connexion, while the Counter-Terrorists are SEAL Team 6. In Demolition mode, the Terrorist team must plant C4 to destroy a safe, while the Counter-Terrorist team must prevent the plant or defuse the bomb if it's planted.

Modes Available

Lake supports Demolition, Arms Race, Flying Scoutsman, and Wingman, making it one of the more versatile small maps in the game.

Map Structure

The Lake map has two primary zones: the outside area and the house. The outdoor space is large and open with sparse cover, making players vulnerable to long-range fire. The house is a multi-level building that includes close-quarters areas, windows, and elevated positions that create opportunities for both defense and ambushes.

Key Locations

Outside

The exterior of the map offers minimal cover, so players must move cautiously. Long sightlines make it ideal for snipers and rifle users to control access to the house. Players attempting to rush are often exposed to enemies with scoped weapons. While trees and concrete props can offer brief protection, bullets often penetrate these surfaces. For better positioning, Counter-Terrorists often head to the garage, while Terrorists push toward the house.

The House

The house has several levels including the basement (or dock), the ground floor with the bombsite in the living room, an upstairs area with multiple bedrooms, and a roof that provides a high but exposed view of the outside. Players often use the cramped rooms for ambushes, while the roof is typically reserved for snipers looking to cover entry points. Many players shoot doors before entering rooms to reveal hidden enemies. When the bomb is planted, the living room and upstairs bedrooms become key battlegrounds. Expect close encounters, quick flanks, and high-pressure engagements.

Team Tactics

Terrorist Team

Terrorists should move quickly to secure the house and plant the bomb in the living room. Once the bomb is down, the team should stay inside and hold defensive positions, especially around staircases and hallways leading to the second floor. Camping on the second floor gives players a strong view of the entry points and allows them to delay or stop defuses.

Counter-Terrorist Team

Counter-Terrorists should try to surround the house rather than rushing through one entry point. This helps reduce the risk of ambushes and increases the chances of retaking the bombsite. After the bomb is planted, it's important to enter together and clear each room methodically. Timing and coordination are critical to avoid being picked off one by one.

Weapon Strategy

Rifles (M4A4 / AK-47)

These rifles perform well at long range, especially in the outdoor areas. They are also suitable for indoor ambushing due to their accuracy and versatility. However, the clip size is limited, so it's important to reload with a teammate nearby for protection.

Submachine Guns

The P90 has a high fire rate and large magazine, making it effective in the house's tight spaces. However, its weak long-range damage means players should avoid outdoor fights. The UMP-45 and PP-Bizon are less reliable due to low damage or poor accuracy, but they can be useful when ambushing distracted or injured opponents.

Pistols

The Desert Eagle is strong but holds few rounds. It should be used against isolated enemies rather than groups. The Five-SeveN and P250 are good secondary choices. The Five-SeveN has good armor-piercing rounds but does less damage, while the P250 is a more stable and forgiving option. The P2000 is more accurate than the Glock-18, though the Glock offers a burst-fire mode with higher clip capacity, which can be effective at close range with proper control.

Shotguns

The Nova excels at close range but struggles against groups. It should be used in tight corners inside the house where a single shot can eliminate an enemy. Missed shots can be costly due to the pump action delay.

Sniper Rifles

The SSG 08 and AWP are ideal for outdoor combat. These weapons allow players to cover open approaches to the house. Once the bomb is planted, snipers can switch to guarding entry points from a distance. The roof is a strong sniping position but lacks cover, making it risky. The SCAR-20 and G3SG1, as automatic sniper rifles, are effective for holding long angles but are harder to use indoors due to their slower handling.

Movement and Map Awareness

Movement on Lake requires awareness and discipline. Don’t linger outside longer than necessary, as open ground makes you an easy target. Always clear rooms before entering and stay alert to enemy positions. Sound cues matter—enemy footsteps in the house are loud and can reveal movement. Change your routes often to stay unpredictable and reduce the chance of being ambushed.

Achievement Tip: Vacation

To unlock the Vacation achievement in CS:GO, you need to win five matches on Lake. Strong team play, smart use of cover, and understanding map flow are the best ways to improve your win rate on this map.

Closing Thoughts

The Counter-Strike Lake Map is small, intense, and rewards quick thinking. Control of the house is critical, but teams also need to respect the dangers of the wide-open outdoors. Whether you're holding a bombsite or planning an entry, success depends on strong coordination, smart positioning, and choosing the right weapons for the job.

Team Vitality CEO Neo: "For Us to be a Global Leader Means Being a Contender at EWC"

Team Vitality remains one of the most influential and well-known esports organizations to date. The Paris-based org fields over 20 esports teams in various esports, though their immensely impressive results in Counter-Strike take center stage.  Being one of the organizations present at Esports World Cup 2026 in Paris, we managed to speak with Fabien "Neo" Devide, Co-Founder and CEO of the Hive, just after an interview with Mike McCabe, COO of the Esports World Cup Foundation, at the opening press conference at EWC. Neo provided a ton of insight into the organization's participation at this year's edition of EWC in Paris. He expressed his desire for the org to perform to the highest standards, but also highlighted that rivalry is key to grow the ecosystem. Additionally, Neo gave strong opinions on the growth of mobile esports following last year's Vitality's takeover and merger with Indonesian side Bigetron, stressing the need for innovation and following ideas in the east, as much as the west.
