The Biggest Winners of Dota 2 patch 7.39d
It's only been a couple of days since Dota 2 patch 7.39d went live and the changes in the meta have been subtle. Extremely subtle. Almost invisible in fact. Sure some heroes took a few hits, but overall, it's roughly the same patch as before.
Despite the mild update, small shifts are happening. In this article we will countdown the biggest winners of Dota 2 patch 7.39d and discuss if they are worth your time to master.
The biggest winners of Dota 2 patch 7.39d
Sand King
- Base Strength increased from 22 to 23
- Sand Storm: Radius increased from 425/500/575/650 to 475/550/625/700
The king of the dumpster has risen!...well, sorta. About two inches but still.
Sand King is slightly more tanky, with a wider Sand Storm this patch. The result is a 2% increase in his win rate. For a hero that's nearly unplayable in high level, this is a nice boost for him. This is also the third straight patch to buff the hero.
Still, we'd argue against using Sand King until some pros show he is viable. He is a decent teamfighter with solid durability and movement, but time will tell if he is worth picking up.
Spirit Breaker
- Base Damage increased by 3
You wouldn't think three damage would result in a 2% increase in win rate but there it is. Spirit Breaker has a positive win rate in every bracket now, and I am glad to see it.
He's still the same hero, a weak laner but a great late-game support with multiple BKB piercing abilities. He's also the best chaser in the game, perfect for uncoordinated pubs.
Melee supports are still not in a good place, and this doesn't change that at all. So stay away from Spirit Breaker if the enemy has a tough duo. However, if you are paired with an independant offlaner, then Spirit Breaker is well worth playing.
Luna
- Eclipse: Cooldown decreased from 110s to 105s
- Lucent Beam: Level 10 Talent Lucent Beam Ministun increased from +0.4s to +0.5s
While she received direct buffs, Luna's biggest gain is that other cores got weaker, along with Blade Mail (an item she never buys) and the potential resurgence of illusion heroes.
Luna does great damage to multiple targets in a fight thanks to Eclipse and her bouncing Glaives. This also made her weak to Blade Mail holders, who can reflect damage back. This remains true, but with the recent nerfs, not as problematic as before for Luna.
Luna is also a hero who is great at dealing with illusions, and buying Manta Style. Now that Maelstrom is nerfed against illusions, this a double buff for Luna. She can fulfill a niche role, while also benefitting from more durable illusions.
We like the direction Luna is going, and it's good to see the carry queen rising to the top. She's a solid (but still underpowered) carry pick at lower levels and one of the biggest winners of Dota 2 patch 7.39d.
