Spirit Takes Down FUT in Paris to Win CS2 Esports World Cup 2026
Team Spirit are the champions of the CS2 2026 Esports World Cup.
donk and co. dropped the opening map of the grand final but refused to fold, storming back to beat FUT Esports 3-1 in a best-of-five that had the Accor Arena crowd on its feet from start to finish.
How It All Came Together
FUT wasn't there just to make up the numbers. The French-based squad opened the series with a 13-11 win on Cache, and for a moment it looked like the underdog story everyone loves might actually happen. But Spirit had other plans.
Anubis turned into a war of attrition, and it took an overtime for Spirit to pull it together, closing it out 16-13. Then came Ancient, and if the first two maps were tense, this one was a heart attack.
Another overtime, another nail-biter, and Spirit came out on top again, 16-14. Two overtime victories in a row is the kind of thing that either breaks a team's spirit or forges it, and this roster clearly chose the latter.
With the momentum fully in their pocket, Spirit slammed the door shut on Nuke, with an amazing performance by donk, dismantling FUT 13-5 to seal the title 3-1. It was a fitting way to end things: after two brutal overtimes, Spirit simply steamrolled their way to the trophy.
The MVP Everyone Saw Coming
If there was ever a lock for tournament MVP, it was Danil "donk" Kryshkovets.
The 19-year-old was the engine behind Spirit's run through all 17 maps of the event, and he saved his best for the final, putting up monster numbers in the decider against FUT. At this point it feels less like a surprise and more like a formality every time Spirit lifts a trophy.
Donk was also named the best player at PGL Astana back in May, when Spirit swept Team Falcons 3-0 in that final. The kid just keeps showing up time and time again.
A Record-Setting Stage
The Esports World Cup kicked off on August 12 with 32 teams battling for a $2 million prize pool, the largest of the CS2 season.
Spirit walked away with $600,000 for the win, while FUT still pocketed a healthy $340,000 for their runner-up finish. The grand final was staged at the Accor Arena, the same venue that hosted the BLAST.tv Paris Major back in 2023, giving the moment an extra layer of history.
Beyond the CS2 prize money, Spirit's run through the Esports World Cup circuit earned them 6th place in the overall Club Championship standings, worth another $1.4M on top of everything else. Add it all up, and Spirit didn't just leave Paris with a trophy; they left with one of the fattest paychecks of the entire festival.
This has got to be the best and most profitable weekend the organization has ever had, considering they've also won The International 2026 of Dota 2 and its $1.5M prize.
But wait! There's more from Team Spirit
There's no time to celebrate for long. Spirit are back in action this Wednesday, taking on DENDELE CS in the opening round of the 2026 BLAST Open Porto. Two titles down this season already, and Spirit is showing no signs of slowing down.
For FUT, the runner-up finish is still a massive achievement, proof that they deserve to be amongst the CS2 elite. But today, in Paris, the trophy belongs to Spirit.
