It’s time for the RLCS Wildcard teams to take to the stage for the first round of the World Championship 2023. There are 3 full days of competition to come and things are only just kicking off. Twenty four of the very best Rocket League teams in the world are going to be competing for the top prize in the game. With a full roster of Major winners, top ranking teams and more descending on Düsseldorf, there’s a lot of action to come. August 3rd marks the beginning of almost 2 weeks of competition. Who will come out on top? Only time will tell.

Only 8 teams have qualified directly to the group stage and won’t begin their games until next week. However, there are 16 teams still waiting to scrap over who joins the top 8 in the groups. Every one of the regions is represented in these teams, although they aren’t equally split.

While there are some surprises on this list, some teams may be unfamiliar. Some teams, such as MENA’s Twisted Minds, haven’t even made a showing at a Major this year. This makes them something of an unknown entity to teams outside their regions.

It’s been a long year of tournaments from all 3 Splits. While some confirmed their slot at Worlds some months ago, it’s more of a recent development for others.

Swiss System Bracket at World Championships 2023

Fans are in for a treat as there are two weeks of competition to come. First up is the Swiss system wildcard bracket. The sixteen teams competing in the RLCS Wildcard stage will need to make good use of their 3 lives - if they lose 3 times, they won’t be able to make it through to the groups.

Teams that win a match will have to play against other winners. Similarly, losers will need to play against other losers. There are 5 potential rounds so teams will be looking to win as many matches as they can as quickly as possible.

It may come as a bit of a surprise North American representatives Complexity have found themselves in the Wildcard stage. Despite being consistently dominant in their own region, they haven’t been able to push into the top 8 on the world stage. After falling short at both the Winter and Spring Split Majors this year, Reysbull, ajg and crr are out to prove themselves.

Wildcard Stage Schedule - Where to Watch

Fans will be able to watch all of the RLCS Wildcard matches and beyond on the official Rocket League Twitch channel. The games go live at 4pm CEST / 10am EST / 3pm BST.

The Wildcard stage will take place from August 3rd - August 6th. With so many games to play, fans can buckle in for some long days of Rocket League. Unusually, every game in the World Championship tournament will be a best of 7, meaning teams need to win 4 games to take the series.

After the wildcard will be the group stage, which will be from August 8th - 12th and finally, that all important finals weekend will be from August 12th - 13th.
