RLCS World Championship 2026
Overview
The RLCS World Championship 2026 is the culminating international LAN tournament of the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) 2026 season for the game Rocket League. It is the premier S-Tier event in Rocket League esports, crowning the world champions in the primary 3v3 mode, with concurrent 1v1 and 2v2 World Championships held for the first time at the same venue. Organized by Psyonix (an Epic Games subsidiary) in partnership with BLAST, the event features 20 of the world's top professional teams competing for a $1,200,000 USD prize pool.
It takes place offline from September 15 to 20, 2026, at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, United States (US). The tournament expands to six days and holds special prestige as the season's climax after regional Opens, two Majors (Boston and Paris), and Last Chance Qualifiers (LCQs). Additional player and team awards are funded by in-game community bundle sales.
History
The Rocket League Championship Series began in 2016 under Psyonix, initially as seasonal competitions with LAN finals. Early seasons (1–8) featured league play and the Rocket League Rival Series (RLRS) for promotion/relegation, with World Championship prize pools growing from $55,000 USD in Season 1 to larger amounts by Season 8. Seasons 9 and parts of Season X were heavily impacted or cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
From RLCS X (2020–21) onward, the format shifted to point-based qualification via regional events leading to Majors and a World Championship. The 2021–22 season expanded to additional regions (MENA, APAC, SSA) and introduced a multi-split structure with international Majors, culminating in larger World Championships (up to 24 teams and multi-million-dollar pools). BLAST assumed primary operational responsibilities starting in 2024.
The 2024 and 2025 seasons refined the structure to two splits (each with three Opens and one Major), open qualification formats evolving to double-elimination/Swiss/GSL/hybrid stages, and World Championship expansion to 20 teams in 2025 with LCQs. RLCS 2026 (the 15th season overall) started in November 2025, introduced a Kick-Off Weekend LAN in Copenhagen, integrated 2v2 alongside existing 3v3 and 1v1 modes, and retained the two-split model ending with the World Championship. Format tweaks included round-robin groups replacing Swiss at Majors and Worlds.
Format
Qualification for the 20-team 3v3 World Championship awards 16 spots via cumulative RLCS Points from the season's regional Opens and two Majors (primarily top teams from EU, NA, SAM, MENA, OCE, APAC, and SSA, with regional slot allocations such as EU top 5, NA top 4/5 depending on Kick-Off results). The remaining four spots come from regional Last Chance Qualifiers allocated to the strongest-performing regions based on Major results. An OCE Tiebreaker determined that region's automatic spot.
The tournament structure is:
- Play-In (September 15): 8-team GSL bracket (seeds 13–20, including LCQ winners). All matches best-of-5 (Bo5). Top 4 advance.
- Group Stage (September 16–17): 16 teams (top 12 auto-qualified + 4 from Play-In) in four groups of four, single round-robin, Bo5 matches. Group winners advance to Upper Bracket of Playoffs; 2nd/3rd place to Lower Bracket; 4th eliminated.
- Playoffs (September 18–20): 12-team hybrid elimination bracket. Group winners start in Upper Bracket (two chances); others in Lower. All matches best-of-7 (Bo7). Crowd days on the final three days.
Concurrent 1v1 and 2v2 World Championships also occur September 15–20 with separate prize pools ($85,000 USD for 1v1; $170,000 USD for 2v2). Seeding draws from regional rankings and prior results. Broadcasts occur primarily on the official Rocket League Twitch channel (twitch.tv/rocketleague) and YouTube, with multi-language coverage and Twitch/TikTok Drops available.
Notable Editions
Prior World Championships have produced iconic moments. The 2021–22 edition in Fort Worth (first post-pandemic full Worlds) saw Team BDS claim the title. The 2022–23 event in Düsseldorf featured an all-French Grand Final won by Team Vitality over BDS (4–0) and set high viewership benchmarks. The 2024 Fort Worth return crowned Team BDS again. The 2025 Lyon edition marked NRG Esports' second title (defeating Team Falcons 4–1), the first Worlds Grand Final without a European team, and the debut of a standalone 1v1 World Championship (won by Nwpo).
The 2026 edition is notable for returning to Dickies Arena (third hosting after 2022 and 2024), expanding to six days, crowning champions across three modes simultaneously for the first time, and incorporating community-funded additional prizes. It follows strong MENA performances (e.g., Team Falcons' Esports World Cup 2026 win) and a competitive season with multiple Major winners.
