RLCS Paris Major Playoffs Preview: Gentle Mates on Fire, FURIA Need a Miracle

The RLCS 2026 Paris Major playoffs start tomorrow, May 22, and the bracket already has a clear focal point. Gentle Mates arrive after a perfect group stage, while FURIA enter the lower bracket after a reverse sweep over R8 kept their run alive.

The playoff bracket also features Karmine Corp vs Gentle Mates and Man City vs Shopify Rebellion on the upper side, with FURIA vs NRG, Twisted Minds vs FUT Esports, Ninjas in Pyjamas vs Team Vitality, and MIBR vs Spacestation Gaming in lower round one. Here is everything you need to know:

Gentle Mates on Fire!

Gentle Mates were the only team to go through groups without dropping a game. They beat FURIA, Spacestation and R8 3–0, which gave them a 3–0 series record and a 9–0 game record.

That run gives them the shows thatthey  did not get here by accident, since they arrived in Paris after winning the Boston Major earlier in the season, meaning the form in groups matched a longer run of results at the top level.

FURIA Keep Their Run Alive, But for How Long?

FURIA had the opposite group-stage path. They opened Group D with a 0–3 loss to Gentle Mates, then lost 1–3 to Spacestation. At that point they were one defeat away from a short stay in Paris.

The R8 series changed everything. FURIA fell behind 0–2, then won the next three games and completed the reverse sweep. That series kept Brazil alive in the bracket and gave the team a much better position heading into lower round one.

NRG now wait on the other side of that matchup. The North American side had a steadier group stage and reached playoffs with more control, so the opening game against FURIA looks like a test of FURIA’s response after the R8 comeback.

RLCS Paris Major Playoffs First Round

FURIA vs NRG

FURIA come in with only one win, a reverse sweep over R8, while NRG arrive with a more stable group stage and a stronger baseline record.

The group-stage split matters: FURIA were swept by Gentle Mates and then beaten by Spacestation before the R8 comeback. NRG, by comparison, handled the games they needed to handle and avoided the kind of collapse FURIA had early in groups.

FURIA’s path is clear: they need fast starts, the same pressure they used in the R8 reverse sweep, and cleaner defense than they showed against Gentle Mates. If NRG drag the series into more controlled Rocket League, FURIA lose most of their edge.

Twisted Minds vs FUT Esports

Twisted Minds and FUT are the lower-bracket matchup with the most even group-stage reading. Twisted Minds had a 3–0 over NiP and a close loss to Shopify. FUT pushed both Karmine and Vitality to five games, which says a lot about their ability to stay in series against top European teams.

Twisted Minds have the more explosive profile. Their win over NiP was fast and clean, and their offense looked hard to contain when they got into rhythm.

FUT are harder to put away. They do not always start well, but they keep games close and force opponents to finish series properly. That makes this a matchup where the first two games may matter more than usual.

NiP vs Vitality

NiP vs Vitality looks like the hardest lower-bracket series to project. NiP beat TSM 3–0, then lost 0–3 to Twisted Minds. Vitality swept Wildcard, lost to Karmine, and then beat FUT in a close series.

Both teams have good LAN names and enough firepower to win a long series. NiP have looked better when their structure holds. Vitality have looked better when zen gets room to work late in games.

The group-stage trends point to a series that can swing on the first few kickoffs and the first two games. If NiP repeat the shape they showed against TSM, they can take control. If Vitality play with the same late-series calm they used against FUT, they have the cleaner route.

MIBR vs Spacestation

MIBR vs Spacestation has a clear favorite on group results, but the matchup is still open enough to matter. Spacestation beat R8 and FURIA 3–1 before losing to Gentle Mates. MIBR had a tougher path and needed close games to stay alive.

Spacestation’s group stage showed more control. They did their job against the teams below Gentle Mates and did not let the bracket slip away before playoffs.

MIBR need a messier series. They have to turn the match into something less structured, because if Spacestation get clean rotations and space in midfield, the NA side should have the better hold on the series.

Don't Forget About the Upper Bracket

Expect a tight and contested upper bracket as all teams had strong group-stage form. Karmine Corp vs Gentle Mates is the main event on paper, while Man City vs Shopify Rebellion also has a potential to be fire, with Man City’s steady group run facing Shopify’s resilience after surviving Twisted Minds.

Added to that, upper-bracket winners get more room to breathe and fewer elimination series. Gentle Mates have the strongest case on paper, but Karmine and Man City both arrive with enough fuel on tank to make the upper side hard to read.

Who's Winning the RLCS Paris Major 2026?

The big Paris Major narratives are clear: Gentle Mates are the only perfect team in groups. FURIA kept their event alive with a reverse sweep. NRG, Twisted Minds, Vitality, NiP, MIBR and Spacestation all enter playoffs with different versions of the same problem, they need clean starts and fewer mistakes than they showed in groups.

Tomorrow’s lower-bracket round should decide which regions stay in the title race and which ones go home early. The bracket gives us France vs France at the top, Brazil vs North America in one lower match, and several series where group-stage trends already point to close margins.
