Rainbow Six Siege Y10S4.2 Patch Notes: Major Thorn and Mozzie Buffs

Rainbow Six Siege Y10S4.2 Patch Notes: Major Thorn and Mozzie Buffs

The Rainbow Six Siege Y10S4.2 update, releasing today, brings major balance adjustments and quality-of-life refinements aimed at refreshing both attacker and defender gameplay. From Thorn’s complete gadget overhaul to the return of Mozzie’s Super Shorty, players can expect meaningful meta shifts in both casual and competitive play.

Thorn Rework: Razor Blooms Get Sharper

Rainbow Six Siege Y10S4.2 Patch Notes: Major Thorn and Mozzie Buffs

Thorn’s Razor Bloom Shells have received the biggest rework of this patch, addressing her long-standing issue of low trap impact in dynamic rounds. With a faster trigger time, more deployable gadgets, and a new debuff mechanic, Thorn is now a more viable trap operator, if one wants to divert from the regular meta.

Razor Bloom Shell Changes:

  • Trigger time after detection: 1.35s (from 2.9s)

  • Activation time after deployment: 1s (from 5s)

  • Max damage: 125 (from 180)

  • Detection and explosion range: 4m

  • Starting quantity: 4 (from 3)

  • Slowdown and bleed effect: 15s duration after hit

The new bleed and movement slow penalty, similar to Frost's Welcome Mats, discourages careless aggressions post-detonation, making Thorn a mid-round menace rather than a pre-placed trapper.

Mozzie Reclaims the Super Shorty

Rainbow Six Siege Y10S4.2 Patch Notes: Major Thorn and Mozzie Buffs

Mozzie’s returning Super Shorty secondary shotgun marks a nostalgic comeback from Year 5. This addition enhances his flexibility, allowing him to remodel sites, create rotation holes, and reposition for roaming strategies without sacrificing intel denial.

Loadout Update:

  • Added Super Shorty shotgun as a secondary weapon.

This change positions Mozzie closer to Ops like Mute and Aruni in terms of defensive utility and mobility.

Echo Gains a Third Yokai Drone

Rainbow Six Siege Y10S4.2 Patch Notes: Major Thorn and Mozzie Buffs

Echo’s strength comes from his Yokai Drones, and this update amplifies his control and information potential by expanding his available drones.

Yokai Drone Update:

  • Quantity increased to 3 (was 2).

While no buff was made to the drones’ power, the additional Yokai increases Echo’s capacity for round control, giving him more options for intel gathering and plant denial.

Quality-of-Life Tweaks

Ubisoft continues its "Refinement" initiative with smaller, consistent updates that improve gameplay flow and operator fluidity without shaking up balance.

Osa

  • Shield deployment time reduced to 1.8s (from 2.3s).

Capitão

  • Incendiary Bolt burn duration increased to 13s (from 10s).

Lion

  • EE-ONE-D scan duration increased to 3s (from 2s).

Maestro

  • Evil Eye battery life increased to 8s (from 6s).

  • Recharge duration matches updated battery time.

Jackal

  • Eyenox scanning range increased to 12m (from 8m).

UMP45

  • Damage increased to 42 (from 38).

  • Improved lateral recoil for smoother control.

These subtle refinements help streamline roles and improve situational performance for individual operators without creating power creep.

Bug Fixes and Technical Improvements

Gameplay

  • Fixed operator detection outdoors on 2F Courtyard Corridor (Fortress).

  • Fixed AI failures to pick up defusers on stair bases.

  • Fixed AI spamming contextual pings without cooldown.

  • Fixed PMR90A2 missing vertical recoil cap.

  • Fixed EMP failing to deactivate metal detectors on 1F Reception (Kanal).

Level Design

  • Fixed chest-placement blocking vault action in 2F Commander’s Office (Fortress).

User Experience

  • Fixed inability to navigate the Report Player panel mid-game.

Audio

  • Restored missing weapon handling SFX during melee actions.

The Y10S4.2 update tweaks keep Siege’s operators feeling fresh, ensuring that consistency improvements remain a steady part of Rainbow Six’s evolving meta.
