On 31st March, Valve dropped the first significant Counter-Strike 2 update in recent times. The update aims to introduce a fresh batch of content to the game via the Weekly Care Package refresh and Armory Update. Additionally, the update also introduces minor changes to Inferno and Train, helping with the maps’ playability.

Let’s dive into the update.

Cleaner Inferno and Train

The biggest complaint for the current revamped version of Inferno was the visual clutter. The much beloved map has been part of Counter-Strike since CS1.1 has been an essential part of esports history.

With the new update, Inferno looks cleaner and features a lot less visual clutter. Banana is also retouched and widened to resemble the CS:GO version of the map.

  • Adjusted Banana to more closely match the size of the CS:GO version.
  • Simplified background behind T ramp.
  • Simplified view into Pit.
  • Simplified background of Bombsite B.
  • Removed step on sides of Arch hallway.
  • Removed pixel gap at Coffin.
  • Adjusted crates on steps up to balcony so players step up reliably.
  • Adjusted or removed props throughout map.
  • Adjusted Player and Grenade collision throughout map.

Similarly, Train, yet another legendary map, undergoes minor changes that aim to improve it’s visibility.

  • Fixed a bug where player shadows would render through windows above A main.
  • Fixed some holes in the world.
  • Simplified back wall by door to Z.
  • Simplified background by upper B entrance.
  • Shortened overhead roof rail in A site, to make it easier to throw utility into site.
  • Replaced see-through grating on catwalk outside of Z door.
  • Replaced see-through fences at top if Ivy with solid version.
  • Simplified brick wall by Ivy.
  • Fixed grenade collision on upper B arch.

While these updates don’t necessarily change the gameplay, they improve the playability of the maps and will be much significant despite their initial impressions.

New Weekly Care Package Drops

One of the biggest content drops of the update is a weekly care package drop refresh. The update introduces three new collections to the game, namely–Ascent, Boreal and Radiant.

You can get hands on these by playing the game weekly and racking up XP to level up every Tuesday (or Wednesday based on where you are in the world).

Armory Content Update

Lastly, the update finally introduces a new Limited Edition, this time a XM1014 | Solitude. Featuring numerous patterns, you can once again try your luck on the new skin by spending 15 stars.

The next part of Armory Update is the new Train 2025 Collection that features multiple weapon skins inspired by the map’s graffiti.

Lastly, to the meat and potatoes of the Armory update, the new Fever Case that features AWP | Printstream and the Shattered Web Knives i.e. Skeleton, Slaughter, Paracord and Survival.

Another Cosmetic Update?

With a big update missing from the game for a long time, the community anticipated Valve to drop a bigger update, featuring new modes, operator skin, missions and more. But the update mostly features cosmetics.

There are new collections, new weekly care drops but the community hoped that the long update drought would be alleviated with major improvements to the game itself or a content drop that isn’t necessarily a cosmetic drop aimed at printing money.

2 years into its release, the game still isn’t the most optimized, the viable anti-cheat is visibly missing and it still isn’t the smoothest gaming experience compared to its predecessor and the latest update does little to soothe that pain.

Naturally, the heavy emphasis on cosmetics frustrates the community but a part of it also celebrates the new cosmetics, and they did tweak two maps, that’s something right?
