The tournament that spans a week will have the teams challenging the dominance of Team Vitality. This will also be the debut tournament for Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov in the new jersey.

Let’s take a look at what the tournament has to offer.

Format and Groups

IEM Melbourne 2025 Group Stage: Storylines and Predictions

Who challenges Team Vitality in Group A?

As mentioned before, Team Vitality enters the tournament as the ultimate favorites. In the last three tournaments they played, they have maintained a clean sheet and haven’t dropped a series.

At Melbourne, at least during the Group stage, Team Vitality’s biggest challenge doesn’t appear until the Upper Bracket Final. Their side of the bracket features Flyquest, Virtus.Pro and Team Liquid, teams that haven’t shown enough good things to challenge a team as strong as the French side.

The other side of the bracket features SAW, Natus Vincere, Team Falcons and MIBR. The frontrunners that can act as a roadblock for Team Vitality are Natus Vincere, who are currently in a slump. Hopefully, the break helped them regain some confidence and reset their poor run. Needless to say, these two are the biggest contenders to make it out of the group, with Vitality likely winning the group.

The tournament will also be a test for the upgraded Team Falcons and whether or not their on-paper prowess can translate to tangible success.

Seeing as it's still their first tournament, we can’t expect the Falcons to outperform everyone, but it definitely will give a teaser for the future. They do have a solid chance to qualify for the Playoffs, especially if the players perform individually.

MOUZ prepares for another final against Team Vitality?

Group A won’t be as different from Group B, with MOUZ being the clear favorites to win it all. The international squad has been the biggest threat to Team Vitality over the past month and if they keep up their performance, they will continue to be the French side’s biggest challenge.

The remaining spot will see four major challengers; FaZe Clan, 3DMAX, Complexity and the MongolZ. The young Mongolian squad has been struggling as of late and needs to somehow reset after their disappointing run in Bucharest.

Both Complexity and 3DMAX displayed some amazing Counter-Strike in the previous tournament, but lost to FaZe Clan during the final stages of the tournament. Despite the team’s continuing struggles that have seen them drop from runner-ups to the top-4, FaZe still stands as a hurdle for the upcoming teams to cross over to the upper echelons of the game.

With the Major on the horizon, the upcoming few tournaments along with IEM Melbourne will likely set the tone for the rest of the season. Will NaVi and FaZe make a comeback? Will the Falcons’ experiment create a team that goes toe-to-toe with Team Vitality, or will we see yet another Team Vitality - MOUZ Grand Finals?
