As part of the ESL Pro Tour 2023/24 season, this tournament promises to deliver thrilling moments, intense battles, and a hefty $500,000 USD prize pool that adds to the prestige of the Intel Extreme Masters Championship.

IEM Katowice, the unrivaled StarCraft II showdown

IEM Katowice 2024 is a standalone ESL SC2 Pro Tour event featuring 24 contenders. The competition kicks off on February 8th and concludes on February 11th, showcasing the best talent in the StarCraft II scene. This event serves as the penultimate stop before the grand EPT World Championship scheduled for the summer of 2024.

The Format: Rigorous and Unforgiving

Group Stage

  • Four groups of six players engage in a Round-Robin format
  • All matches are best-of-three (Bo3)
  • Group winners advance directly to the Quarterfinals
  • Second and third place in each group move on to the Round of 12
  • Tiebreakers are settled based on various criteria, including overall map difference and match wins.

Playoffs

  • Single-elimination bracket featuring Round of 12, Quarterfinals, Semifinals (Bo5), and the Grand Finals (Bo7).
  • Semifinalists secure seeding in the upcoming EPT 23/24 World Finals.

Participants and prize pool

A diverse group of 24 players, consisting of 8 Protoss, 10 Terran, and 6 Zerg contenders, will vie for supremacy in IEM Katowice 2024. The roster includes formidable names like Maru, Serral, and Astrea, each earning their spot through regional qualifiers and prior GSL victories.

The staggering $500,000 USD prize pool reinforces the gravity of this event, with the winner taking home $150,000 USD. The distribution ensures that even reaching the top 24 guarantees a share of the spoils, making every match crucial for participants.

  • 3rd-4th Place: $40,000
  • 5th-8th Place: $20,000
  • 9th-12th Place: $10,000
  • 13th-16th Place: $5,500
  • 17th-20th Place: $4,000
  • 21st-24th Place: $3,000

Group stage victories also earn players an additional $500 USD for each Bo3 win, emphasizing the importance of every match played.
