With just a month left for the Cologne Major, IEM Atlanta 2026 serves as the last big test for the world's best Counter-Strike teams. Running from May 11-17, the tournament features 16 top teams competing for a hefty prize pool and crucial VRS points, live at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.  

With a packed esports calendar and the Cologne Major just a month away, several top organizations have opted out of IEM Atlanta. This includes teams like FURIA, Spirit, Aurora, and a few others, many of whom currently occupy top‑10 spots in the VRS standings.

Below is everything you need to know about IEM Atlanta 2026, including the participating teams, group brackets, tournament format, and more.

Teams and Groups

The 16 participating teams will be split into two groups for the first stage of the tournament: 

Format

IEM Atlanta 2026 will kick off with a Group Stage. The 16 teams will be split into two groups and compete in a double-elimination bracket, with all matches played as best-of-three.

The winners of each group will advance directly to the semifinals, while the runners‑up will enter the quarterfinals as the high seeds. The third‑place teams from each group will also reach the quarterfinals, but as the low seeds.

The top six teams from the Group Stage will then advance to the playoffs, where a single-elimination bracket will determine the tournament champion. All playoff matches will be best-of-three, except for the Grand Final, which will be a best-of-five series.

Opening Matchups 

The first set of IEM Atlanta 2026 matches will be held on Monday, May 11. The exact timings will be revealed soon.

Group A 

  • Vitality vs BC.Game 

  • B8 vs BetBoom 

  • paiN vs FaZe 

  • NRG vs FUT 

Group B 

  • NAVI vs Passion UA  

  • SINNERS vs GamerLegion

  • Legacy vs M80

  • Liquid vs Astralis 

Group A Predictions 

IEM Atlanta Group A features a few solid teams, but the clear favorite is undoubtedly Team Vitality. After securing their fourth consecutive Tier 1 CS2 trophy of 2026 and their second overall Intel Grand Slam in April, Vitality looks fully prepared to take on the competition in Atlanta. Currently in the semifinals of BLAST Rivals Spring, the team is aiming to extend its trophy streak ahead of IEM Atlanta.

With several top teams absent, the only squads capable of challenging Vitality in Group A are FUT and FaZe. Neither is a top-tier contender, but both have shown promise. FUT Esports claimed their first-ever Tier 1 CS trophy in April by defeating Astralis in the PGL Bucharest Grand Final. While their BLAST Spring campaign wasn't particularly strong, the roster has demonstrated tremendous growth over the last few months.

As for FaZe, despite missing out on the upcoming Major and losing veteran IGL karrigan to Falcons, they've reached the quarterfinals of BLAST Spring, where they currently face G2. A win over G2 would set up a semifinal clash with NAVI, and that performance will serve as a true gauge of the team's potential with the new coach enkay J and stand‑in Neityu.

Group B Predictions 

IEM Atlanta Group B appears more stacked than Group A. NAVI is likely the frontrunner for a semifinals spot, while teams like Legacy and Astralis have a solid chance at playoff qualification.

Currently ranked second in the global VRS standings, Natus Vincere is a potential title contender at this event. Since securing their first trophy of the year at ESL Pro League Season 23, NAVI has delivered promising performances at BLAST Open Spring and IEM Rio, losing only to the eventual champions, Vitality. They are now in the semifinals of BLAST Rivals Spring and are well-positioned to secure a strong finish, further building momentum ahead of IEM Atlanta.

Ranked 14th globally, Legacy is another promising team aiming for a consistent spot in Tier 1 events. While they have typically struggled against international opposition, their 2026 performances, particularly at ESL Pro League Season 23 and in Tier 2 tournaments offer room for optimism. As for Astralis, while they are far from recapturing their former glory, their 2026 results point to steady growth. Their recent achievements include a runner‑up finish at PGL Bucharest and a third‑place finish at ESL Pro League Season 23. Given their current form, Astralis has a legitimate shot at playoff qualification and could even secure a top‑three finish.
