ESL One Birmingham: Format, Schedule, Fixtures and More

ESL One Birmingham 2026 is about to start, and 16 teams are ready to fight. Let's take a look at the tournament's lineup, notable roster changes, and unfortunate absences.

On top of that, we will also check how the tournament is organized, the schedule for the Group Stage, and the most interesting matchups happening in this first stage.

The ESL One in Birmingham is the first ESL One in 2026.

ESL One Birmingham: Lineup

As usual, we are going to list the 16 invited and qualified teams heading into the Group Stage. Unlike other tournaments, ESL One has maintained the classic organization with separate qualifiers in the Americas and Asia.

These are our 16 ESL One Birmingham competitors:

Just by looking at the list, we can see how much Dota 2 has changed since Raleigh. PARIVISION and Team Spirit are in crisis, while Tundra remains a bit more consistent in this first quarter.

In terms of notable roster changes, Ghost will be standing in as carry for Yakult Brothers. GamerLegion will also bring Shad as a new position 1, and finally, Wits comes in as the third position 1 replacement for paiN Gaming.

ESL One Birmingham: Organization

In 2026, ESL decided to organize just one ESL One, so the champions will hold the trophy for almost a year after this event. The Group Stage will feature two groups with eight teams competing in a round-robin format from March 22 to March 25.

The top two teams from each group advance to the Upper Bracket in the Playoffs. The 3rd and 4th place teams from each group advance to the Lower Bracket. The remaining competitors are eliminated.

In the Playoffs, we have a classic double-elimination format with best-of-three matches and a best-of-five Grand Final, running from March 16 to March 29.

Teams that place first during the Group Stage will receive an extra 800 EPT points added to their final count when the tournament is over. This is a big step toward the Esports World Cup.

ESL One Birmingham: Talent

No tournament is complete without Sheever playing the role of host, and ESL Birmingham brings her back along with Tsunami as the main desk host.

Since things are closer to home, Dota fans' favorite British talent also joins the event, with PyrionFlax as reporter and stage host, TeaGuvnor as guest analyst, and Gareth and ODPixel as casters.

Interesting Matchups

Since the schedule is already long enough, let's pick just one interesting matchup from each day and talk a little about both teams.

Day 1 — Tundra Esports vs. PARIVISION

The first matchup in Group A is already a big one, putting PARIVISION on the spot as the standing champions. The PARI roster has been struggling in 2026 and will face a strong opponent right in their ESL One debut.

Tundra Esports, on the other hand, is the only team from the ESL One Raleigh Top 3 that is still performing well and recently won DreamLeague Season 28.

Day 2 — Team Falcons vs. Team Spirit

Team Falcons versus Team Spirit might be a turning point for both teams. Falcons have recently had a lot of roster issues with ATF and Malr1ne and return at full strength in ESL One Birmingham to try to get back to the top.

Team Spirit seems to be in a moment of low morale and is in desperate need of a win. Spirit's last Top 3 in the ESL Pro Tour was a second-place finish at DreamLeague Season 27 last December.

Day 3 — Nigma Galaxy vs. Xtreme Gaming

This will be Nigma's first tournament after SumaiL left their roster. Nigma has been trying hard to get back on track and this is a good opportunity to show that they will be fine without him.

China's best is still smoothing out some edges. Xtreme Gaming was left out of the PGL Wallachia Playoffs and now needs to adjust as quickly as possible before TI in Shanghai.

Day 4 — Team Yandex vs. MOUZ 

The last day of groups starts with two rising stars in pro Dota 2. Team Yandex had a recent slump that was quickly resolved by winning PGL Wallachia with DM standing in as offlaner.

MOUZ, on the other hand, has lost its position as the standing Wallachia champion and now struggles to keep up in the first quarter despite performing very well in the last quarter of 2025. Will they find their way back?

Closing Thoughts

ESL One Birmingham has a special place in the hearts of fans, carrying that “big tournament” aura that gets everyone excited to see how teams will perform.

Unfortunately, Team Liquid did not qualify and will be watching from the outside as their adversaries compete. This does not mean they will stand still, but it might be an opportunity to rest.
