DreamLeague Season 29: Format, Schedule, Fixtures and More

After a short break and a couple of smaller tournaments, we are back to the ESL Pro Tour, with DreamLeague Season 29 deciding the final round of points before the Esports World Cup 2026.

The tournament will start on May 13th and we will review the lineup of qualified teams, the organization of the Group Stage, and other relevant information concerning the last DreamLeague of the season.

DreamLeague Season 29 is the last step on the journey to the Esports World Cup 2026.

DreamLeague Season 29: Lineup

We have already announced the lineup of qualified teams for DreamLeague Season 29 in a separate article, but it's important to point out some changes that have occurred since May 1st.

First, South America Rejects made it to DreamLeague, and their effort paid off as Playtime decided to take on the roster. Playtime is an organization from the Philippines and dropped their former regional roster to sign the former paiN Gaming lineup.

Will Tundra succeed in defending their DreamLeague championship?

Another big change is that Heroic left professional Dota 2. As a result, the former roster will stick together, inherit their EPT points, and compete in DreamLeague Season 29 as ex-HEROIC.

Finally, one day before the tournament, Team Spirit announced that Nikita "panto" Balaganin was moved to the inactive roster. Alexey "not me" Kosmynin joined the team as a soft support, and Aleksandr "rue" Filin was moved to the hard support role.

DreamLeague Season 29: Organization

DreamLeague Season 29 will start with a standard Group Stage featuring two groups playing round-robin matchups. All series will be played as best-of-2 and will award points to determine who advances to the Playoffs.

The top four teams from each group will advance to the Upper Bracket of the Playoffs. The 5th and 6th place teams from each group will advance to the Lower Bracket, while the remaining teams will be eliminated.

The Playoffs will begin on May 19th and will follow a double-elimination format, with best-of-3 series and the usual Grand Final played as a best-of-5.

DreamLeague Season 29: Talent

Despite having a broad pool of talent, DreamLeague Season 29 appears to be playing it safe by keeping most, if not all, of its previous invites. As usual, Jorien "Sheever" Heijden and Neal "Tsunami" Khandheria will share hosting duties.

Among the returning talent, some more recent faces coming back as analysts. Aydin "Insania" Sarkohi and Quinn "Quinn" Callahan return to provide insight into players' mindsets and continue building their roles as ESL analysts.

Group Stage Schedule

DreamLeague Season 29 will alternate focus between each group depending on the day. This means that on the first day, Group A will have more matches than Group B, and vice versa, until the final day, when both groups will have four matchups each.

Interesting Matchups

The best thing about a round-robin Group Stage is the number of exciting matchups right from the start. Let’s take a look at some of the most interesting matchups each day.

Day 1

The first day kicks off with PARIVISION facing Tundra Esports. PARIVISION competed in the 1Win Essence I and, despite finishing first, will enter DreamLeague Season 29 with little downtime before facing Tundra.

Tundra Esports, on the other hand, are the reigning DreamLeague and ESL One champions and will be looking to defend their title after underwhelming performances at PGL Wallachia Season 8 and 1Win Essence I.

Day 2

Nigma Galaxy lost to Playtime at 1Win Essence I and will have a chance for revenge on the second day of the Group Stage. Playtime has invested heavily to remain in Europe before securing an organization and will feel pressure to perform despite their previous victory.

Nigma Galaxy has been trying to return to Tier 1 tournaments but has found a recurring obstacle in Playtime. They lost to them in the DreamLeague Division 2 Season 4 Grand Final and again at 1Win Essence I.

Day 3

Midway through the Group Stage, Team Liquid will face Team Falcons. Both teams are close to qualifying for the Esports World Cup via the ESL Pro Tour leaderboard. Team Falcons have yet to show the consistency expected from reigning International champions.

Falcons is not performing very well if we take their recent history in consideration.

On the other hand, Team Liquid’s recent performances, and their head-to-head history against Team Falcons, position them as strong contenders in this matchup. Falcons still hold a higher overall win count, likely due to their dominance in previous seasons.

Day 4

Day 4 features BetBoom Team versus Xtreme Gaming. BetBoom Team won PGL Wallachia Season 8 and will aim to maintain or regain their strong form during the Group Stage.

Meanwhile, Xtreme Gaming once again carries the responsibility of being China’s top team, along with the pressure tied to The International returning to Shanghai and the possibility of bringing the Aegis of Champions back to China after a decade of mostly European domination.

Day 5

The final day of the Group Stage features Team Spirit versus ex-HEROIC, both with compelling narratives. Team Spirit is looking to improve after making a last-minute roster change ahead of DreamLeague Season 29.

ex-HEROIC faces its own challenges. After losing their organization, the South American roster finds itself in a situation similar to the former South America Rejects. Their performance in this tournament could determine their future.

Closing Thoughts

DreamLeague Season 29 is the final opportunity before EWC 2026. Teams will fight until the last moment for a chance to secure a spot and compete for the new prize pool target of the professional Dota 2 circuit.
