There are just under 3 weeks until the annual CRL World Championship tournament and this time, it’s taking place in Dallas during the Dreamhack 2023 festival. Here, 16 of the very best collegiate Rocket League teams in the world will battle it out for a chance to call themselves the best in the world. The CRL is a great place to keep your eye out for future talent that may well make their way into the RLCS in the coming years.

US Representation - Top Teams at the CRL World Championships

As any fan of the CRL will already know, the only regions that compete are North America and Europe. Each region sends the créme de la créme of teams in an effort to make sure they come out on top. This year, the US has a more dominant position, with 10 of the teams representing the region:

  • Columbia College
  • Northwood Blue
  • Akron Zips Blue
  • Fisher Falcons
  • Northwood White
  • West Virginia University
  • University of Nevada Las Vegas
  • Boise State University
  • Stockton University
  • St. Clair College

The defending champions, Northwood Blue, will no doubt be fighting hard to continue their reign. Ever since their decisive victory against Stockton University at the 2022 tournaments, they’ve seemed almost undefeatable. In fact, there are only a couple of small blips on their otherwise spotless record including the Fall 2022 National Championship. This is something they more than made up for at the CRL National Championship a few weeks ago. We’d certainly recommend keeping your eye out for Buddy, LionBlaze and hockE in Dallas!

EU Representation - Coming in Hot

The US may have more teams heading to the CRL World Championships but that doesn’t mean the EU is down and out already. There’s still a very respectable representation from this region. Six of the very top teams from across Europe will also be making their way across the pond to compete from June 2nd - 4th:

  • Berlin Phoenix
  • Amsterdam Carball
  • Dr. Buhmann Akademie
  • Hamburger Haie
  • Dorans Boxfish
  • SETU Esports

Admittedly, the North American region has been a lot more dominant on the world stage than Europe in recent years. All eyes will undoubtedly be following last year's champions to see if they can hold onto their crown. With the event taking place at Dreamhack Dallas this year, the NA teams will certainly have a home turf advantage.

Dreamhack Dallas - What to Expect from CRL World Championships 2023

This isn’t the first time Dreamhack has hosted the CRL World Championships. Fans will be looking forward to having the event return to Dallas and it certainly shouldn’t disappoint! The tournament is expected to take place as follows:

  • 16 teams divided into 4 groups of 4 teams each.
  • Groups compete in a double elimination bracket for the first two days.
  • The top 8 teams will advance to the playoffs.
  • They compete in a single elimination bracket until just one team remains.

Simple enough, right? Fans who wanted to attend the tournament in person can already purchase tickets online. However, for those who want to keep up with all the action online, they’ll have to follow along on the official CRL Twitch channel. Who knows, perhaps players from the CRL will be joining the ranks of the very best Rocket League teams in the world sooner than we think!
