Why Mira is Perma-Banned in Ranked and How Ubisoft Can Fix It

If you’ve queued up for a Ranked match in Rainbow Six Siege recently, you already know the drill. The ban phase starts, and before the timer even hits the halfway mark, the purple window icon is locked in. With a ban rate soaring above 90% in many competitive brackets, Mira has become the ultimate boogeyman of Siege.

This trend is mirrored at the highest level of play: at the BLAST R6 Salt Lake City Major, she was banned 90 times for a 53.6% ban rate, second only to Kaid’s 100 bans and 59.5%.

But looking at the latest balancing matrix, a strange paradox emerges: when she is allowed onto the board, her win delta is actually negative. So, why is the community so terrified of a Defender who statistically loses more rounds than she wins? The answer lies in the psychological warfare she brings to the server.

Why Black Mirrors Feel “Impossible” to Play Into

For those unfamiliar with Siege’s mechanics, Mira’s gadget lets her place two one‑way Black Mirrors on soft or reinforced walls, giving defenders perfect information while attackers see only opaque glass. When paired with a small killhole next to the mirror, defenders can toss explosives or hold razor‑thin angles while enjoying near‑riskless intel, turning a single panel of glass into a round‑long choke point.

Layer in hard-breach denial like Bandit, Kaid, or Mute on the same wall, and attackers are forced to bring very specific counters just to execute a default site take. Add a time‑wasting roamer and info denial like Mozzie on top, and solo‑queue attackers often feel like they’re bashing their heads into a brick wall.

It’s not just the intel gathering; it’s the immediate threat of what comes next. A good Mira setup usually involves placing the mirror next to a soft wall, transforming a scouting tool into an incredibly lethal quick-peek station. Armed with the Vector .45 ACP—an SMG with an absolutely blistering fire rate—and a secondary shotgun for DIY site construction, Mira is a self-sufficient anchor capable of single-handedly locking down both bomb sites.

The Psychology of the "Comfort Ban"

Mira’s absurdly high ban rate isn't necessarily because she’s mathematically overpowered; it’s because she fundamentally alters the geometry of the map. Like most top-tier Defenders in this game, Mira forces Attackers to react to her.

Just the presence of a Black Mirror dictates the flow of the entire round. It forces the attacking team to abandon their preferred push, funnel into disadvantageous choke points, or burn massive amounts of utility just to deal with a piece of bulletproof glass. For a lot of players, especially in the chaotic environment of Ranked, it’s simply easier to hit the ban button than to deal with the headache of adapting.

The Solo Queue Nightmare

In a highly coordinated, professional five-stack environment, Mira is entirely manageable. She has plenty of established counters: hard breachers like Hibana and Ace; Twitch drones; Ash charges; Kali lances; vertical play with Buck or Ram; or simply getting close enough to shatter the glass with a melee strike.

But Ranked Siege is rarely a perfectly coordinated environment. Executing a counter-strategy against a properly supported Mira requires communication. You need to clear roamers to take vertical control, burn through Jäger ADSs or Wamai disks to land explosives, and coordinate crossfires. When you aren't in a pre-made squad, relying on random teammates to meticulously dismantle a Mira setup is a massive gamble. Banning her guarantees you won't have to rely on a disorganized team to clear an entrenched setup in the Oregon basement or Chalet garage.

How Ubisoft Can Fix the Mira Problem

Ubisoft is currently staring at a highly frustrating operator who is simultaneously over-banned and statistically underperforming. To fix this, they need to target the frustration of her gadget rather than just nerfing her lethality.

One potential solution is implementing a health pool for the Black Mirror glass itself, similar to how the development team handled Azami's Kiba Barriers. If Attackers could shatter the glass by investing enough standard rifle ammunition into it, it would remove the binary "hard counter or lose" nature of her gadget. This change would still allow Mira to gather crucial early-round intel but would prevent her from locking down a main hallway for an entire three-minute round unconditionally.

Alternatively, Ubisoft could look at tweaking her loadout. Removing her secondary shotgun would force her to rely on teammates for site construction, reducing her autonomy and making her slightly more cumbersome to pick. Whatever route they take, it’s clear that simply tweaking her weapon recoil won't shatter the glass ceiling keeping her locked in the ban phase.
