Over the course of 2025 so far, we have witnessed ten S-tier tournaments in just five months; a ludicrous stat line that is only outclassed by Team Vitality winning six of these after attending seven. The unimaginable success rate of winning tournaments serves as a solid preface for the upcoming Valve-sponsored Counter-Strike event.

Going into the Austin Major 2025, it wouldn't be a stretch to say it is Vitality’s tournament to lose. In the same vein, if they fail to conquer the biggest title of the first half of 2025, the community will be quick to forget the utterly outrageous run they have been on.

But is there a team that can challenge Team Vitality? A team that can upset the title contenders and single-handedly overturn a run of five months through a single Bo3 win? Let’s take a look at the teams with the biggest shot to take down the superstar roster.

Pound for Pound - Team Falcons

Arguably the closest to take down Team Vitality over the past five months has been Team Falcons. Since m0NESY joined the roster, they have challenged the top dogs four times. Every time they pushed Team Vitality to the limit, forcing them into a corner, but every time their opponents found a way to break through and came out on top.

On paper, Team Falcons is pound for pound a solid match for Team Vitality – star AWPer, coveted rifler, a strong entry, and a stable anchor.

One area where Falcons lags is IGL. ApEX’s experience reigns supreme over kyxsan. The latter is a strong IGL in his own right, but the sheer number of games under apEX’s wing helps him handle a multitude of situations with equanimity.

Arguments can be made for the Falcons' relative lack of practice before their previous encounters, and that the team should come better prepared to the Major. But then again, Team Vitality will have better data and come better prepared for Falcons too.

So the next time these two teams face each other, matters should come down to the nitty-gritty, the macro decisions, the map-by-map consistency, and the ability to close out a series. And in that case, Team Vitality will be our choice to take the crucial games.

A Solid Foundation - MOUZ

While Falcons can match the peak of Vitality, MOUZ can match the stability.

When Spinx first came in and Brollan was handed the reins of the squad, MOUZ were ridiculed. But the squad proved everyone wrong and became a team that always performs (except against Vitality).

Since the roster change, MOUZ has found new heights: consistent top-four finishes, a PGL title, and arguably the strongest team in CS after Vitality. And still, every time the opportunity to take down Vitality presented itself, MOUZ failed. The two teams have met in the finals three times in 2025, and every time MOUZ just couldn't do it.

At the latest IEM Dallas, leading up to their Grand Finals clash, MOUZ looked like a better team–well-drilled, better form. But when the dust settled, they were swept and 3-0’d all the same.

Many may point to the player head-to-head, but MOUZ has solid talent—some still developing, less prominent, but great talent still. And yet the team always fails to show up at the crucial times, making small mistakes that add up to a series loss.

Vitality’s ability to show up has always triumphed over MOUZ, and their comfort will always help them take this team down.

One Man Army - Team Spirit

Donk, donk, donk…. But ropz, ZywOo, flameZ, mezii, and apEX.

Team Spirit section could end right here, but there's more to it. Apart from donk, they have strong pieces who often fail to show up. Sh1ro, the team’s AWPer, is amongst the best the game has seen, but his timid play style doesn't work best in the current meta. However much we would want to throw magixx under the bus, he does his job will doing most of the dirty work for the team. But the truth is that the role doesn't suit him.

Zont1x, who was as explosive as donk, seems to have mellowed down massively, while Chopper just seems out of it. Moreover, unlike some of the best teams in Counter-Strike, Team Spirit do not bootcamp.

The sentence, often misunderstood, just means that Team Spirit chooses to practice like they always do, instead of bootcamping. These bootcamps often simulate tournament conditions and boost team morale and synergy. But they are hardly the reason the issue for Team Spirit's tactical struggles.

The defending Major champions rely heavily on their firepower and mechanical prowess to brute force through games. This approach isn’t enough to take down a consistent team like Vitality, and with Spirit not changing their approach, the Major won’t go any differently.

Honorable Mentions

The MongolZ are a young squad that can reach newer heights at the upcoming Major. In the past few tournaments, they have come closer to breaking through to the upper echelons of Counter-Strike. If it all comes together at the Major, they can very well challenge Team Vitality (not win, though).

Aurora (prev. Eternal Fire) still stands as the only team that has defeated Team Vitality in 2025. The conditions are different, but never say never, right? They are a strong team, with amazing pieces and a strong tactical foundation.

Lastly, FaZe Clan. No but, on a serious note, FaZe Clan has had a history of showing up at the Majors and a s1mple vs. ZywOo clash is enough reason for wishful thinking.

No One Can Defeat Team Vitality?

Until this point, we have named a total of six teams but always favored Team Vitality to secure the win. And ideally, they should. But coming into the Major, they have a massive burden. The five months of sheer dominance means a massive target on their back.

Additionally, if Vitality fumble the Major, they will always be the team that missed out on a Major, despite being the heavy favorites (*cough 2018 FaZe Clan *cough).

Added will be the pressure of the 30 series win streak and that it might break – an unfortunate round here, a missed map there – and they not only lose the streak, but also miss out on the Major.

With this much pressure, Austin will be their biggest challenge yet, and the most important. If they lose, the dominance was for nothing; if they win, they establish themselves as the best Counter-Strike squad of all time.
