What to Expect in Overwatch Season 3: New Hero, Map, Mythic Skins, and More

Overwatch Season 3 is just around the corner, and it’s set to bring a ton of new content to the hero shooter. Titled Into the Dragon’s Den,” the upcoming season is scheduled to arrive on June 16

From a brand‑new Damage hero and a neon‑soaked Hybrid map to fresh Mythic skins and the usual round of balance changes, here's everything you can expect when Overwatch Season 3: Into the Dragon’s Den goes live.

New Hero: Shion - Hashimoto Clan's Deadly Elder

Leading the charge in Season 3 is Shion, a fierce elder of the infamous Hashimoto Clan and the fifth Japanese hero to join the Overwatch roster. As a Damage hero belonging to the Flanker sub‑role, Shion is built for cutting into the backline and eliminating enemy supports.

Shion has a fascinating kit, much of which is unique to the game. Her primary weapon is a pair of pistols, setting her apart from other dual‑wielding heroes. She also has a dash ability that, combined with her sub‑role passive and perk choices, helps her excel as a Flanker.

Overwatch is also introducing a wild new mechanic with Shion's Joyride ability, which lets her launch a motorcycle at her enemies. This has been the highlight of her kit since her reveal, and players are eager to see how it plays out in‑game.

New Map: Neon Junction - A Race Through Tokyo

Celebrating Shion's addition to the game, Overwatch will take us through the neon‑lit streets of Tokyo on the new Hybrid map. We were treated to a glimpse of Neon Junction in Shion's hero trailer and later in her gameplay trailer.

Neon Junction will be the fourth Japanese map added to the game, following Hanamura, Kanezaka, and Hanaoka, all of which are also based in Tokyo. However, unlike the cozy, peaceful vibe of those three maps and their traditional, nature‑inspired aesthetics, Neon Junction embraces a cyberpunk theme in a futuristic setting.

Its vibrant neon pink shades suggest a high‑energy, fast‑paced atmosphere that fits Shion's theme perfectly.

3 New Mythic Skins

While Blizzard has yet to reveal the full Mythic lineup for Season 3, we can expect at least three Mythic skins, following the pattern established in previous seasons: one hero skin and one weapon skin with the Season 3 patch, and another hero skin during the mid‑season update.

Based on speculation from the Overwatch Spotlight blog post in February 2026, Illari and Mauga are rumored to receive Mythic hero skins, while Hanzo could get a Mythic weapon. However, we don't have official confirmation yet.

Hero Balance Changes: Potential Buffs and Nerfs

Blizzard typically ships Overwatch's seasonal patches with a host of hero balance changes, so we can expect some much‑needed adjustments on June 16 as well.

In their latest blog post, the developers announced that Jetpack Cat will be among the recipients of these changes, owing to the growing popularity of her lethal combinations, primarily with heroes like Bastion and Cassidy. The nerfs include an increase to Fika's Frenetic Flight fuel regeneration penalty and a weakening of her Transport Shielding perk, among other adjustments.

Here’s what the blog post says:

“Jetpack Cat’s Frenetic Flight fuel regeneration penalty will be increased and Transport Shielding (a Minor Perk) will lose some of its staying power, among other changes. Lifeline will remain a useful tool for Jetpack Cat, but upcoming changes should keep its ability to cause meta mayhem relegated to the pro scene.”

Beyond the Jetpack Cat nerfs, we can expect several changes to both underperforming and overperforming heroes in the standard modes, as well as Stadium. We'll learn more when the full patch notes are out.

The Standard Additions - Battlepass, Events, and More

Apart from all the points listed above, Overwatch Season 3 will feature the standard 80‑tier Battle Pass, offering both free and premium rewards. Purchasing the pass grants access to a variety of cosmetics, as well as Prisms to unlock Mythic skins.

A variety of in‑game events will also take the spotlight in Season 3. So far, we know that a collaboration with J‑Pop duo YOASOBI will arrive on June 30, continuing the season's Japanese theme. This collaboration brings skins for Kiriko, Genji, Hanzo, and more, along with other visual content, such as a short story, a song, and an animated music video.

Competitive players can also expect a rank reset at the start of the new season. With a new hero and map joining the action, along with the usual hero balance changes, the game's meta is set for a noticeable shift, adding to the rank climb experience.

The Competitive Drive system is also expected to return at the end of the season, offering Competitive Points and a distinct Signature.

Overwatch Season 3 is shaping up to be one of the most content‑packed updates of the year. With Shion bringing a fresh, high‑mobility playstyle to the Damage roster, Neon Junction offering a stunning new battleground, and the usual slate of Mythic skins, balance changes, and quality‑of‑life improvements, there's plenty to look forward to when the season launches on June 16.

Pre‑load for the Season 3 patch is currently live, and players on console and Battle.net (PC) can download the contents ahead of time to speed up their seasonal update. This time around, the PC update size exceeds 10 GB, suggesting the patch is flowing with content. So stay tuned, as we'll explore the update in detail once the full patch notes are released.
