Overwatch Season 5 is around the corner, and it has a lot in store for players. A new hero, a new map, a Halloween event, reworks to popular heroes, and much more are set to make the game more entertaining when the update arrives at 11 am PT on October 6.

Users on Battle.net and console can already pre‑download the game to load it faster when the update drops. For now, here's a summary of everything the new season offers.

Meet the New Support Hero: Doctrine

The newest addition to Overwatch's roster is the vampire‑inspired Support hero Doctrine. Revealed on the BlizzCon 2026 stage, Doctrine is a unique new character featuring a new type of ability: Infuse.

By heightening the effects of his own kit, Doctrine can deal substantial damage, heal effectively, and even reposition himself using his handy movement ability.

You can learn more about Doctrine's abilities and playstyle here.

New Escort Map – Watchpoint: Grímsvötn

Overwatch welcomes its first Escort map in years with Watchpoint: Grímsvötn. In the game's lore, the map is a prison that has housed some of the most dangerous criminals in the Overwatch world. We'll learn more about the map once the new season is live.

Halloween Event – Mystery Madness: Graveyard Games

Running from October 6 to November 2, this new game mode blends Doctrine's theme with the Halloween occasion. In Mystery Madness: Graveyard Games, players enter as a random hero and rise from death with new powers.

You can complete challenges to collect "Offsprings," which you can then pledge to Ashe, Moira, or Winston. The hero with the most Offsprings will enter the mode next, and eventually, all three heroes will return. By the end of the event, the mode will have a roster of 20 heroes.

That's not all - there are more Halloween‑themed offerings. There will be a new Event Pass each week, which players can complete to earn various rewards.

The rewards include a Legendary Reinhardt skin, several Loot Boxes, and a bunch of cosmetics. We'll have more information once the season drops.

Mythic Skins: Wuyang and Lucio

  • Dragon Shaoxia Wuyang Hero Skin: Wuyang receives his first‑ever Mythic skin in Season 5. Giving the Support hero a grand appearance, the Dragon Shaoxia skin offers customizations that include flowing hairstyles, real dragon horns, a mask, and more. The unique aspect of the skin is the celestial dragon that stays alongside him and changes color with each variant.

  • Treblemaker Lucio Weapon Skin: Lucio receives his first Mythic weapon skin before a Mythic hero skin. Treblemaker converts every aspect of Lucio's playstyle into a performance, with special audio for healing and damage, reactive UI, and more.

Overwatch x Shadow Monarch Collab

With this new collaboration, Overwatch introduces skins themed around the popular web novel and anime, Solo Leveling. Five heroes will don the attires of and represent characters from this popular universe:

  • Genji × Sung Jinwoo

  • Reaper × Igris

  • Anran × Cha Hae‑In

  • Reinhardt × Iron

  • Lifeweaver × Choi Jong‑In

The collaboration event and skins will be available from October 6 to 19.

Battle Pass

Similar to the previous season, Season 5 will feature the revamped Battle Pass structure, which allows non‑linear progression and the use of Tier Hacks.

Featuring a spooky atmosphere themed around Halloween, the rewards this season include Legendary skins for Ashe, Soldier: 76, Mei, Junker Queen, and Zenyatta. You can also unlock Epic skins for Bastion, Brigitte, and Symmetra.

The Ultimate Battle Pass, meanwhile, will offer Legendary skins for Doctrine and Venture.

The Battle Pass will also feature an expanded pool of skins to swap using Tier Hacks. The new additions include Witch Kiriko, Streetwear Hazard, Magma Sombra, and Evening Wear Tracer.

Unvaulted Battle Pass

Unvaulted Battle Passes will welcome the return of old Battle Passes from Seasons 1 to 15. Players will have the option to purchase each of these old passes for 1,000 Coins and complete them alongside the ongoing season's pass.

Once purchased, they are permanent. And if players already own one of these, they can pick up right where they left off and complete it to earn the rewards they missed the last time. For more details on Unvaulted Passes, you can read our article on them.
