As the glow from VCT Masters London begins to fade and the triumph of Leviatán's incredible run firmly seats itself in history, we look towards the second half of 2026.  The conclusion of the second VALORANT Masters event of the year marks the start of the sharp incline, a final dash for the finish line — Champions Shanghai.

Only 16 teams will earn the privilege of basking under the brightest spotlight the VCT has to offer, and there’s very little time left. Let’s have a look at what to expect come VCT EMEA Stage 2.

Challenger Teams Join the Mix; Will EMEA’s Elite Hold Fast?

As a quick reminder, Stage 2 in 2026 will pit the best Challenger teams against the Partner teams from the region; a dramatic clash that offers Challenger teams a direct pathway to Champions later this year.

Challengers EMEA Stage 3 will serve as the first point, with the Group Stage taking place from June 22nd to the 29th. From there, Playoffs will take off on June 30th and lead into July 5th.

EMEA Challengers Stage 3 Groups and Playoffs

The top 3 teams in Playoffs then qualify directly to the VCT EMEA Play-Ins. The remaining teams are then bound for the Last Chance Qualifier (July 7th – 12th) where 1 final team can earn a spot to the Play-Ins.

VCT EMEA Stage 2: Format and Schedule

Stage 2 introduces a 3-part format to accommodate the additional teams contending for limited qualification spots: Group Stage, Play-Ins, and Playoffs.

Group Stage

The Group Stage is a closed affair, only including the 12 Partner teams and lasting from July 15th until August 2nd, consisting of 5 show days a week with 2 Bo3s per day.

In a bit of exciting news, Stage 2 will also be the debut moment for the Riot Games Arena’s newest addition: the Studio Stage, built to accommodate the increased number of show days.

  • Single round-robin
  • Bo3
  • Top 2 advance

Play-Ins

Lasting from August 6th to the 16th, the 4 qualifying Challenger teams take their spots to contend with the remaining 8 Partner teams.

Teams that placed 3rd and 4th in the Group Stage earn a bye directly into Round 2 of the Upper Bracket. Meanwhile, the Challenger teams will start in the Upper Bracket Round 1, where they’ll face the 5th and 6th placed teams.

  • Double-elimination bracket
  • Bo3
  • Top 4 advance

VCT EMEA Stage 2 Play-Ins

Playoffs

The final 8 teams meet from August 20th to the 23rd to decide which 2 teams will earn the direct qualification spot to Champions Shanghai.

The 1st seeds from Groups Alpha and Omega earn an immediate bye to the Round 2 Upper Bracket while the 2nd seeds begin their Playoffs run from the Round 1 Upper Bracket. The 2 best seeds from Play-Ins will meet 2nd seeds, with the winner from those clashes facing the aforementioned 1st seeds.

The 2 low seeds from Play-Ins will begin in the Round 1 Lower Bracket. No second life, one chance to qualify.

VCT Championship Points on the Line

Qualification for Champions doesn't just happen through decider matches. Two more slots are available for teams to qualify — using Championship Points accrued over the course of the entire season.

Each match win during the regular season grants teams 1 point. In Playoffs, this is further accelerated:

1st place8 points
2nd place6 points
3rd place5 points
4th place4 points

The Championship Points leaderboard as they stand now have the top 7 EMEA teams in close contention:

Team Heretics 9
BBL Esports
Team Liquid6
Fnatic 6
Eternal Fire6
Gentle Mates5
Natus Vincere2

In the event qualification through a Playoffs win isn't possible, teams will look to their Championship Points tally in the hopes it will be enough to qualify them.

Team Vitality CEO Neo: "For Us to be a Global Leader Means Being a Contender at EWC"

Team Vitality remains one of the most influential and well-known esports organizations to date. The Paris-based org fields over 20 esports teams in various esports, though their immensely impressive results in Counter-Strike take center stage.  Being one of the organizations present at Esports World Cup 2026 in Paris, we managed to speak with Fabien "Neo" Devide, Co-Founder and CEO of the Hive, just after an interview with Mike McCabe, COO of the Esports World Cup Foundation, at the opening press conference at EWC. Neo provided a ton of insight into the organization's participation at this year's edition of EWC in Paris. He expressed his desire for the org to perform to the highest standards, but also highlighted that rivalry is key to grow the ecosystem. Additionally, Neo gave strong opinions on the growth of mobile esports following last year's Vitality's takeover and merger with Indonesian side Bigetron, stressing the need for innovation and following ideas in the east, as much as the west.
