FUT Lose Round After Mouse Breaks at Champions 2026; Riot Decision Sparks Debate

A mouse malfunction involving a FUT Esports player cost the team a round and sparked a fresh debate over officiating at the VALORANT Champions Shanghai 2026. The incident happened on Wednesday (30) during FUT's winners match against 100 Thieves in Group A.

The issue occurred early on Split, the first map of the series. After taking the opening round, FUT were looking to extend their lead when Doğan “xeus” Gözgen's mouse appeared to break during a crucial duel against Jordan “vora” Pulwer. The FUT player was unable to fire, was eliminated, and 100 Thieves went on to win the round.

A technical pause followed the play. When the match resumed, the result stood, with no round rollback and no round victory awarded to FUT.

Community Questions Riot Decision After FUT Player's Mouse Breaks

The decision quickly drew attention to Rule 10.2.3 of the official VCT rulebook, particularly the section covering interruptions that do not result in an immediate round restoration.

In those situations, both teams must continue playing and finish the round. Officials then assess the circumstances of the interruption during a technical pause.

"For all other interruptions to gameplay, both Teams must play out and finish the round. League Officials will evaluate the circumstances of the interruption to gameplay at the end of the round during a technical pause. Failure by a Team to play out the round to the best of their ability will not be considered as grounds to restore a round. Interruptions to gameplay that occur after a player’s agent has been eliminated from the round will not be considered."

"Awarded Round Victory: League Officials, at their sole discretion, may award a round victory if an interruption to gameplay caused a Team to lose a round that the Team had already undisputedly won at the time of the interruption, as determined by League Officials at their sole discretion."

That final provision is what fuelled much of the discussion after the incident. Several users questioned the ruling and argued that FUT had been heavily disadvantaged by the technical issue.

The frustration also extended to the broader technical problems at Champions Shanghai. In a separate discussion about the recurring pauses and equipment issues, users questioned how players were still running into these problems several days into the tournament.

At the time of writing, no detailed public explanation had been issued regarding the criteria officials used to let the original round result stand.

Champions Shanghai Has Already Faced Other Technical Issues

The incident has drawn even more attention because it is not the first equipment-related problem at the tournament. During the opening days of the competition, technical issues disrupted the start of VALORANT Champions Shanghai 2026, with players reporting PC freezes as well as problems involving mice and other input devices.

Riot Games investigated those incidents and identified interference caused by metallic components in the stage desks. A temporary fix was put in place, and the company later announced that it would rebuild the PC desks being used at the tournament.

At the time, Riot said no further interruptions had been recorded after the fix was implemented. There has been no confirmation, however, that the issue xeus experienced was related to the same interference identified earlier in the event.

100 Thieves Secure Playoff Spot

The series between 100 Thieves and FUT Esports ended with a 2-0 victory for 100 Thieves. The result sends the North American side directly to the playoffs of VALORANT Champions 2026.

FUT are not eliminated from the tournament. The European team now drops into the Group A decider, where it will have one final chance to secure a place in the playoffs.
