VCT 2025 EMEA Stage 1 Playoffs: Format, Schedule, Predictions, Results, and More

After a few surprises along the way, the Group Stage of the VCT 2025 EMEA Stage 1 has drawn to a close. Now, the eight teams that qualified for the Playoffs will begin the race for the trophy, as well as fight for a chance to secure their spot at the next step of international competition in VALORANT: Masters Toronto.

Let's go ahead and take a look at everything there is to know about the VCT EMEA Stage 1 Playoffs before they kick off on Thursday, May 8th, including format, key dates, and our own predictions for how we expect the tournament to play out.

Teams

The top four teams from each group at the end of the Group Stage have booked their spot at the Playoffs. These teams are:

Format

The VCT EMEA Stage 1 Playoffs format is simple. Here's exactly how it will work:

  • Double-elimination bracket
  • #1 seed from each group gets a bye straight into the Upper Bracket Semifinals
  • #4 seed from each group starts the Playoffs in the Lower Bracket
  • All matches are Bo3, except for the Lower Bracket Finals and the Grand Finals, which are Bo5
  • The top 3 teams at the end of the Playoffs qualify for Masters Toronto

Schedule and Key Dates

Follow the schedule to make sure you don't miss out on any of the action:

  • Playoffs start Thursday, May 8th
  • The Grand Finals will crown the champions on Sunday, May 18th
  • Two matches will be played per day, except during the Lower Bracket Finals and Grand Finals
  • Matches start at 5pm and 8pm CET each day
  • Lower Bracket Finals and Grand Finals will begin at 6 pm CET instead

Opening Matchups

The start of the VCT EMEA Stage 1 Playoffs have some exciting matches waiting for us. To kick things off, here are the two opening matches:

From then on, the winners of each match will move on to face Team Heretics and Team Liquid in the Upper Bracket Semifinals. Meanwhile, the losers of these opening matches will drop to the Lower Bracket, where Karmine Corp and Team Vitality will be waiting to take them on.

Predictions

Who will win it all?

After the way the Group Stage went, it's hard to imagine a team other than Team Heretics or Fnatic lifting the Stage 1 trophy when all is said and done. The Heretics' impressive run saw them top their group after dropping just 2 maps across the entire Group Stage, while Fnatic only lost to Team Heretics but showed a remarkable level of play throughout.

Though Team Liquid and BBL Esports looked solid over in Group Omega, the truth is they had a weaker group to start with. Now is when the real competition begins, and it's hard to imagine either team can compete with a sharp-looking Heretics over an extended Bo5 series.

Teams to make Toronto

If we expect either Team Heretics or Fnatic to win Stage 1, then naturally two of the region's three spots at Masters Toronto should go to them. As for the final spot, Team Liquid look poised to head for the international stage once more.

And yet, Team Vitality could decide to turn it up at the right time to book their spot at Toronto. The team that won Kickoff just months ago hasn't been able to reach their former level after bringing in Clément "CyvOph" Millard in favor of Nikita "trexx" Cherednichenko for Stage 1. If the squad finds a way to click, though, they'll be a threat to any team at these Playoffs.

Despite BBL's good form during the Group Stage, the team is yet to be thoroughly tested, and might struggle against the strongest teams in the region as they battle to book their spot at Toronto.

The end of the road

Difficult as it may be to say, teams like NAVI, FUT Esports, or Karmine Corp, seem destined for an early elimination at these Stage 1 Playoffs. None of these squads have shown a consistent enough level of play during the Group Stage to pose a threat to the likes of Team Heretics moving forward, and would be lucky to win even a single series.

As for Vitality, despite the team's fourth place finish in their group, you simply cannot count out a squad that looked like the best team in the region not too long ago. And besides, who's to say Nikita "Derke" Sirmitev won't just show up and dominate the competition without warning?
