VALORANT Patch 13.01: Iso and Yoru Buffs, Outlaw Nerf and More

Riot Games has rolled out VALORANT Patch 13.01, and while it's not the biggest update of the year, it brings meaningful quality-of-life buffs, a notable nerf, and a major crackdown on players threatening the competitive integrity. Here's everything you need to know.

Agent Updates: Iso and Yoru Get Some Love

Two agents received targeted buffs this patch, both aimed at smoothing out frustrating mechanics rather than overhauling kits.

Iso gets a quiet but impactful fix to Double Tap. Previously, unequipping the shield came with an awkward delay before you could swap to your weapon. That delay is now gone entirely, meaning the weapon swap is instant.

For Iso players, this closes a small but real window of vulnerability right after using the ability.

Yoru picks up two changes:

  • Gatecrash's Active Beacon Duration jumps from 15 seconds to 20 seconds, giving Yoru more time to commit to (or bait with) his teleport.

  • Fakeout clones now hold Yoru's last equipped weapon instead of always defaulting to his strongest gun. This is a flavor-focused fix that makes clones feel more convincingly "real" to opponents trying to read a fight.

Weapon Updates: Outlaw Reined In

Outlaw header

Outlaw has been dominating lobbies since its release, and Riot is finally addressing its consistency on the second shot. The changes specifically target the gun's back-to-back firing pattern:

  • Recovery time after the first shot increased: 0.10 >> 0.15

  • Spread after the first shot increased: 0 >> 2.25

  • Recoil after the first shot increased: 0 >> 4.0

Riot's framing here is important: they want Outlaw to stay powerful with its rapid double-tap potential, but they're introducing enough spread and recoil to reward player skill and positioning rather than letting the gun feel like a guaranteed one-two punch. 

Expect Outlaw one-taps to remain strong at range, but follow-up shots will demand tighter mechanics.

Player Behavior: Rank Manipulation Gets Punished

This is arguably the headline change in 13.01, even though it's not a gameplay tweak. Riot has upgraded its detection tools for rank manipulation, building on systems it already deployed in League of Legends.

Combined with data collected since VALORANT introduced the Rank Manipulation report category last year, Riot is now moving from detection to active enforcement.

Confirmed offenders can face:

  • Account suspensions

  • Rank reversions

  • Ranked reward reversions

Players will also start seeing in-game feedback when someone in their recent matches gets penalized for rank manipulation, similar to existing cheating-report notifications. 

Riot's stated goal is to protect ranked integrity so competitive climbs actually reflect skill. If you're covering the competitive scene, this is worth flagging to your audience, especially since smurfing and boosting have been a recurring point of community frustration.

Bug Fixes Worth Knowing

Patch 13.01 also cleans up a long list of smaller issues across agents and maps. Some highlights:

  • Clove, Miks, and Skye can no longer exploit the Buy Phase to gain extra ability charges by purchasing and reselling them.

  • Cypher's Cyber Cage received three separate fixes covering line-of-sight blocking, missing trajectory indicators, and audio cues.

  • Jett can now consistently pick up the Spike and weapons during Tailwind.

  • Reyna's Dismiss no longer occasionally locks her out of equipping a weapon.

  • On Summit, Iso can no longer cheese the falling door crush, and Waylay can no longer reach unintended spots via Refract and Lightspeed.

The full list also includes fixes for Astra, Deadlock, Gekko, KAY/O, Killjoy, Neon, Sage, Viper, and Veto, mostly visual or minor interaction bugs.

Known Issue

Omen's Shrouded Step is currently missing its obstructed placement indicator on PC. No fixed timeline has been announced yet.

Social Update: Discord Integration Goes Global

Outside of gameplay, Riot is rolling out a Discord partnership designed to streamline squading up. Once you link your accounts, you can:

  • Invite Discord friends straight into your VALORANT party without alt-tabbing

  • Copy and share a lobby link directly in a Discord server

  • See which Discord friends currently play VALORANT for faster party formation

This feature launched in beta in Brazil first and goes live globally (wherever Discord operates) on July 21.
