VALORANT Patch 12.04: Killjoy Changes, UI Overhaul, and Bug Fixes

VALORANT's Patch 12.04 isn't the most explosive update the game has seen, but it's a meaningful one. Riot Games has focused this patch on polishing the player experience — from Agent usability tweaks to a full redesign of the post-game and career screens. Here's everything you need to know.

Killjoy Gets a Smarter Turret

The headline Agent change this patch belongs to Killjoy. Her Turret placement has been reworked to match the cast paradigm of Sage's Barrier Orb, meaning players can now rotate the Turret by holding down ALT-FIRE during placement. The ACTIVATE button now swaps Turret direction instead.

This is a subtle but impactful quality of life upgrade. Previously, KJ players had to physically reposition themselves to angle the Turret toward a specific zone, which often cost precious seconds in tight situations. With this change, precise Turret coverage becomes far more accessible, which could open up new defensive setups in both ranked and professional play.

Additionally, Sova received new voicelines this patch; a small but appreciated touch for one of VALORANT's most played Agents.

A Wave of Bug Fixes

Patch 12.04 cleans up a notable list of bugs across multiple Agents:

  • Killjoy: Nanoswarm invisibility bugs triggered by fast movement or suppression have been fixed, along with the minimap vision cone disappearing on right-click

  • Jett: Drift's passive gliding SFX was audible through Astra's Cosmic Divide, which has now been resolved

  • Harbor: Storm Surge could persist into the next round if cast at the last second; that's been patched out

  • Fade: Nightfall's minimap indicator was slightly undersized compared to the actual ability radius

  • Chamber: Trademark was incorrectly playing its reactivation SFX twice when Suppress expired on him

  • Skye: An observer-side bug where Seekers didn't appear on the minimap when Skye was attacking has been fixed

On the map side, Breeze received collision improvements that allow Vyse's Arc Rose and Cypher's Spycam to be placed on walls, alongside several minor art bug fixes. Minor geometry adjustments were also made across multiple maps to eliminate unintended gaps in high-traffic areas.

End of Game and Career UI Revamped (PC)

  • PC players are getting a significant visual overhaul to several screens. The End of Game screen now features updated Progression, Summary, and Timeline tabs with a refreshed layout.

  • After Competitive matches, a new Rank Summary screen breaks down your RR gains and losses in clearer detail.

  • The Career and Friends' Career pages have also been redesigned with a new UI, making it easier to track your performance history and browse your friends' stats at a glance.

The Progression Hub Replaces the Battlepass Tab

One of the more practical navigational changes in this patch is the replacement of the Battlepass tab in the top navigation bar with a new Progression tab. Clicking it opens the Progression Hub, a centralized dashboard that shows your Battlepass progress, weekly missions, active event passes, and other ongoing progression opportunities all in one place.

It's a smart consolidation that reduces the amount of menu-diving players have to do to stay on top of their rewards.

Performance Fix for Stuttering Issues

Since Patch 12.03, some players had been experiencing significant stuttering. Riot deployed a hotfix that partially addressed it, and this patch now includes a more robust, complete fix for the issue.

Premier Update and Known Issues

For Premier players, the next stage, V26A2, kicks off at the beginning of Act 2 in Patch 12.05, with matches starting Wednesday, March 18. This stage will run for six weeks instead of the usual seven. Teams need a Premier Score of at least 500 to qualify for Playoffs on April 16.

One known issue to keep in mind: the scroll wheel doesn't currently work when navigating battlepass or event pass tiers. Riot has confirmed a fix is coming in Patch 12.05.

This patch is another one focused mainly on tightening up the experience—ironing out bugs, cleaner UI navigation, and a performance fix that many players have been waiting on since 12.03. Sometimes, the best patches are the ones that quietly make the game feel better without you having to think too hard about why.
