VALORANT Introduces Skirmish Ascension Game Mode in S26 Act 3

VALORANT Introduces Skirmish Ascension Game Mode in S26 Act 3

VALORANT welcomes a brand-new limited-time game mode in S26 Act 3: Skirmish Ascension. Arriving with Patch 12.08 on April 29, the mode is essentially an enhanced version of Skirmish with a few extra touches. Instead of focusing solely on gunplay, Skirmish Ascension incorporates select abilities and a stage-based weapon system to increase its competitive depth. It also adds a live leaderboard for both its 1v1 and 2v2 queues.

Skirmish first arrived as a Custom Mode allowing up to five players per team. This was later followed by the queueable 2v2 Skirmish Mode, which let players compete solo or with a friend in 2v2 matchups. Both iterations mostly followed the same rules: first to 10 rounds, no Agents, no abilities, and full weapon selection.

After seeing the mode's popularity and listening to community demand, Riot Games has revived Skirmish, but with a new twist. This iteration demands more complex decision-making and game sense, now that Agents and abilities are involved. The staged weapons add variety, while the ranked leaderboard and its accompanying rewards raise the stakes. Below is everything we know so far about Skirmish Ascension.

Skirmish Ascension Agent & Ability Roster

VALORANT Skirmish Agent Roster

As mentioned, a limited set of Agents has been handpicked for the first iteration of Skirmish Ascension in VALORANT. Additionally, a single ability has been selected from each of these characters' kits. Below are the Agents and abilities that will be available in Skirmish Ascension during Season 2026 Act 3:

  • Jett - Tailwind

  • Waylay - Refract

  • Chamber - Rendezvous

  • Cypher - Cyber Cage

  • Omen - Shrouded Step

  • Phoenix - Curve Ball

  • Yoru - Clone

  • Iso - Contingency

  • Sage - Barrier Orb

  • Raze - Blast Pack

  • Vyse - Arc Rose

  • KAY/O - Flash/Drive

  • Breach - Flashpoint

  • Veto - Crosscut

Out of the 29 Agents in VALORANT's roster, only 14 have made their way into the new Skirmish Ascension mode. This gives Riot room to experiment, whether by introducing a different set of Agents next time, expanding the current roster, or even testing another iteration with a different (or larger) ability selection.

Weapons & Stages

VALORANT Skirmish Ascension Weapon Stages

In previous Skirmish modes, players had unrestricted access to the armory and could pick any weapon in any round, regardless of cost. Skirmish Ascension, however, introduces a stage-based weapon system. The first four rounds are pistol rounds, followed by four rounds featuring low-tier rifles. The remaining rounds allow players to choose from the primary rifle options.

  • Rounds 1-4: Bandit, Sheriff

  • Rounds 5-8: Guardian, Bulldog

  • Rounds 9-19: Vandal, Phantom

SMGs, Shotguns, Sniper Rifles, and Machine Guns will seemingly not be available in this mode. It's unclear whether they are completely excluded or will be accessible via weapon spawners, similar to those found in Team Deathmatch.

Ranked Leaderboard

VALORANT Skirmish Ascension Ranked Leaderboard

Skirmish Ascension will feature separate leaderboards for 1v1 and 2v2 Skirmish modes on Riot Games’ FTW (For The Win) website. They will be segmented by server to group players based on their region and platform.

Ranks are determined by a point system that factors in your win/loss ratio while accounting for the skill levels of both your teammates and opponents. Consistently winning matches against strong opposition will help you climb the ranks.

Skirmish features separate leaderboards for 1v1 and 2v2 modes. Rankings for each mode are tracked independently and do not carry over between them, meaning you must play the applicable mode to appear on its corresponding leaderboard. In the event of a tie, the player with the higher number of games played will receive the better leaderboard placement.

Skirmish Ascension Rewards

VALORANT Skirmish Ascension Rewards

Players can receive two player cards for playing Skirmish Ascension. They will be delivered in the form of text codes via the FTW platform’s “Rewards” tab:

  • “Combat Ready” Player Card - Complete 3 Skirmish placement matches

  • Trade Me” Player Card - Complete 15 Skirmish matches

Later on, based on your performance on the leaderboard, you will also be eligible to receive player titles as rewards:

  • Skirmish Competitor - Gold to Platinum

  • Skirmish Expert - Diamond to Immortal

  • Skirmish Radiant - Radiant

These titles will be awarded based on your highest rank across either the 1v1 or 2v2 Skirmish leaderboards during the Challenge Period. Note that players must redeem the reward codes before any stated expiration on Riot’s Code Redemption page or in VALORANT’s game client.

Alongside the Skirmish Ascension mode, S26 Act 3 will also welcome the Kuronami 2.0 bundle, featuring skins for Phantom, Operator, Guardian, Ghost, and the unique Naru-Kami blade melee. You can also unlock and explore the seasonal Battle Pass, which offers a ton of unique skins, sprays, gun buddies, and other cosmetics.
