Team Vitality and Team Spirit Go to War in the IEM Rio 2026 Grand Final

It all comes down to this. The IEM Rio 2026 Grand Final is set, and it's a matchup that feels almost scripted: the world's number one team, Team Vitality, against a Team Spirit that looks like it has rediscovered itself at exactly the right moment.

Sunday's best-of-five at the Farmasi Arena is going to be something else. Specially since ESL has just put a $200k bounty on Vitality's head.

Vitality Keeps Rolling

Vitality's road to the final was, as usual, methodical and dominant. After dropping a group stage match to Team Falcons, a rare bump for a team that entered Rio on an absurd run of form, they bounced back with a clean 2-0 sweep of Natus Vincere in the quarterfinals, with ZywOo dropping 30 kills in a 17-round map as a personal statement.

From there, they dismantled FURIA today in the semifinals to punch their ticket to Sunday. Vitality doesn't panic. They just keep grinding until the other team breaks.

Is Spirit's Form Back?

Spirit's story is a bit more surprising and a lot more fun to talk about. Coming into Rio as a team still finding their footing under magixx's leadership, they absolutely destroyed MOUZ in the quarterfinals in a way nobody saw coming.

Then, in the semifinals, they swept Team Falcons 2-0, a result that flips the script from their earlier group stage encounter where donk had one of his worst showings of the year.

This time around, donk showed up, magixx's calling was sharp, and the whole team played as a unit. Spirit look dangerous.

There's No Way Around it

ZywOo has been the most impactful player at this event. No doubt about it.

He's been operating at an elite level all tournament, and Vitality's structure under apEX gives him the platform to just do what he does. On maps like Mirage and Inferno, his AWP becomes something Spirit will need a specific answer for, and history shows how hard that is to find.

Spirit's counter will rely heavily on donk finding the form he showed against MOUZ and carrying it into a five-map war. The rest of the roster needs to play as that cohesive unit they showed in the semis. If they do, there's a path.

Spirit have the map pool to create uncomfortable situations for Vitality, and they've shown they can close out games under pressure.

But Before the Main Event

Before the trophy is handed out, there's a third-place match that carries its own weight. FURIA faces Team Falcons for bronze, and with the Farmasi Arena crowd firmly behind the Brazilians, Falcons will walk into something of a hostile environment.

FURIA went deep at this event with FalleN's retirement announcement hanging over every round, and winning the third-place match on home soil would still be a meaningful moment, especially for FalleN, who revealed he has 247 days left in his career.

The crowd isn't letting him go out quietly.

One Trophy, Two Hungry Teams

For Vitality, this is yet another opportunity to cement their status as the most dominant CS2 team of the era.

As for Spirit, this is a redemption arc playing out in real time. A team that was once on top of the world is now one best-of-five away from the biggest win of their comeback run.

Someone's story ends in heartbreak on Sunday.
