The Semifinals of PGL Astana 2026 played out exactly as the community expected. Consequently, tomorrow, May 17, Barys Arena will host the battle of some of the biggest CS2 superstars, as Team Falcons take on Team Spirit for the trophy.

Team Spirit Rampage Continues

After dominating the Swiss Stage and the Quarterfinals, Team Spirit entered the Semifinals as heavy favorites against their rivals, MOUZ.

As expected, Team Spirit did win the game, but the way they did it surprised many. In the two maps, the teams played, MOUZ secured a total of 5 rounds. Team Spirit’s Dust 2 win was a solid T-side led by donk and tN1R, while the Nuke victory was a display of solid CT-side protocols with sh1ro’s AWP playing a crucial role.

On the back of this solid performance, the magixx-led Team Spirit has secured impressive back-to-back Grand Finals. While they were no pushovers before, their Rio and Astana expeditions have established them as solid contenders ahead of the CS2 Cologne Major 2026.

Karrigan Was the Answer

PGL Astana was Team Falcons’ first tournament under karrigan’s leadership. While they did stumble during the Swiss Stage, they have since shown massive improvements over the short span of the tournament.

Especially their Quarterfinal win over FURIA was the best CS2 series of 2026 yet. In the series, the Falcons persevered through multiple OTs to secure the Semifinals. The series against magic was much easier; the ease with which Falcons swept through their opponents underlines their newfound stability.

If karrigan can continue to activate the Falcons players regularly—especially kyousuke—he can lead them to victory without having a visible impact on the scoreboard.

Who Will Win: Falcons or Spirit?

While these teams have faced each other on multiple occasions before, tomorrow will be a completely different ball game, as this Team Spirit is not the squad that lives and dies by donk, but a team that can utilise each piece well. Team Falcons themselves play with an IGL who knows how to enable his superstars and has been a master of mid-rounding for many years.

Tomorrow, these teams will face a new challenger in an old outfit.

For Team Spirit, the biggest challenge will be to take on the collective might of the Falcons’ superstars, led by karrigan. To counter this, not only does magixx have to support his teammates with utility, but he also has to make the correct rotation calls so as not to fall for Karrigan’s tricks.

For Team Falcons, the biggest threat would still be donk. But this time, he’d be surrounded by his teammates and supported by the improved protocols of S0tF1k. This synchronized attack will definitely strain the Falcons' CT side, as the team has limited practice with Karrigan on the squad.

The decisive factor in tomorrow’s clash, however, will be the AWP duel between m0NESY and sh1ro. If either AWPer repeatedly shuts down their counterpart, they will gain a massive advantage for their respective teams. Especially if sh1ro fails to put a leash on m0NESY’s AWP, Falcons will have an easier time shutting down donk and Spirit, and win the series.

Irrespective, this clash of titans is shaping up to be a blockbuster rematch that will impact more than just tomorrow’s outcome.

PGL Astana 2026 Grand Finals:  Team Spirit vs Team Falcons Map Veto and Predictions

Map Veto

Knowing Spirit and Falcons, the two map bans will be Inferno and Overpass, respectively. The first set of map picks will be Dust 2 by Spirit and Mirage by Falcons. Followed by Spirit’s Anubis and Falcons’ Ancient. Nuke will be the final map of the series.

Predictions

The CT-side protocols will decide who will lift the PGL Astana 2026 trophy. While Team Spirit comes with superior form and synergy, the raw potential of Team Falcons cannot be underestimated.

We expect small margins to decide the game, and Spirit’s superior team chemistry to win their first CS2 trophy of the year. That said, Team Falcons has an equally good chance of winning the fixture.
