At the opening game of the VCT Pacific superweek, Paper Rex took on GenG for the second seed. The best-of-three series concluded with Paper Rex taking down the Tiger Nation 2-0. After the game, Strafe interviewed Paper Rex’s latest addition Ilya “something” Petrov. In an exclusive one-on-one interview, PRX something talks about playing with Paper Rex, aggressive plays, playing other agents and more.

Q. Congratulations on the win. You are now the second seed after beating GenG. How are you feeling about it?

PRX something: “I think because of the technical pause of 1 hour, I felt out of game, I wasn’t focused but after seeing the 0K-5D on the scoreboard, I relaxed and came back and played our game that’s all”

Q. You joined Paper Rex mid-season and moreover, you had to adjust to Korea too. But it did not impact your performance much. How did you adjust to the team so quickly?

PRX something: “I had already adjusted to my teammates, my coach, my staff. But maybe not 100% yet but like 90-80%”

Q. We have seen you making exceptionally aggressive plays and it works for you? What are your thoughts on your personal performance?

PRX something: “I don’t know it’s just my playstyle. Because I play a lot of ranked and use shorty so I just know what I need to do with the shorty.  Maybe jump into the smokes, Dash and updraft on the head and some kind of stuff”

Q. What is the thought process like making such aggressive plays? There is a chance it just doesn’t work out. How do you make the decisions to go for the plays?

PRX something: “I think I just do it. I don’t think too much, just have a lot of confidence and just go for it. If you think too much about it you’d become a slow player and Paper Rex never plays slow”

Q. With you and both Paper Rex being aggressive helped you synergize with the team better?

PRX something: “Yes, Yes, Yes. I think I am more aggressive than my time on sengoku”

Q. Compared to your time on Sengoku, you have less responsibility to frag. Does that help you since now you know your teammates will definitely have your back?

PRX something: “I mean I think yes because you are human and we don’t like to make mistakes, you don’t wanna die for free. For eg. If I die like two times for free ofcourse I don’t want to do it in the next rounds. Sometimes I feel I can play passive with these teammates and sometimes If I feel like I can go for it I can do it”

Q. How was it playing Breach for the first time?

PRX something: “I can say it is good for me that I can play an initiator. But problem is I need more experience on the agent especially in a tournament because sometimes teams don’t play as they do in scrims so yeah I just need more experience that’s all and I will become very good breach”

Q. Are there any more agents you want to play?

PRX something: “Maybe in the future Skye. My favorite agents right now are Jett, Reyna, Skye and Breach”

Q. Do you think Paper Rex will allow you to play Reyna?

PRX something: “yeah why not?”

Q. You’d face RRQ next. What are your thoughts on the team?

PRX something: “About team RRQ, They have been improving a lot since the first week. So I think they are a good team, but we are already seed 2 so let's see how we’d play”

Q. Is there any player you want to dual with in RRQ? ₹

PRX something: “EJAY”

Q. Can we see much more aggression in the upcoming game against RRQ?₹

PRX something: “Ofcourse, Yes. More confidence”

Q. Which team do you want to face Internationally?

PRX something: “Fnatic and LOUD”

Q. Any specific player you are looking forward to playing against internationally?

PRX something: “Of Course Derke. I want to play versus him”

Paper Rex closed the superweek with a clean 2-0 record. With the wins, they stay as the #2 seed of VCT Pacific and are seeded in the Upper Semifinals. In the upper semifinals, Paper Rex will play the winner of T1 vs. GenG.
