PARIVISION Are the DreamLeague Season 29 Champions
DreamLeague Season 29 was full of surprises. On top of securing an Esports World Cup invite via ESL Pro Tour Points, PARIVISION also emerged as tournament champions after winning the Grand Final.
Let's take a look at how both Grand Finalists reached the final matchup and their overall performances throughout the tournament. This DreamLeague brought back the Eastern European dominance of last year and leaves a different impression heading into the EWC.
PARIVISION: Not Perfect But Perfectly Fine
First, we have PARIVISION's journey to the Grand Final starting in Group B. PARI made an almost perfect run, with their final 6-1 score only blemished by a loss to the unpredictable PlayTime, who recently secured their own direct EWC invite.
Despite finishing second in Group B, PARIVISION managed to secure a convincing 2-0 victory against Natus Vincere, who had placed first, showing that their performance was on par with the best teams in the tournament.
In the Playoffs, their first matchup was against Team Liquid. PARI started strong and defeated Liquid with a 2-1 score. In the Semifinals, they turned the tables against Team Falcons, who had achieved a perfect Group Stage score but ended up losing 2-1 after taking the first map.
In the Upper Bracket Final, PARIVISION continued their amazing rung, this time against Team Spirit. Satanic decided to stick with Kez even after losing the first map with the hero, and his perseverance paid off with great performances in the following two maps. As a result of PARIVISION's 2-1 victory, Team Spirit fell to the Lower Bracket.
Aurora Gaming: Going Past Champions
Aurora Gaming's path to the Playoffs was much more complicated. They got past Group A without the need for a tiebreaker, but their 4-3 score placed them only fourth after losses to Team Falcons, Team Liquid, and Team Spirit during the first few days of the tournament.
During the Playoffs, Aurora Gaming also started by turning the tables against Natus Vincere, winning 2-1. Unfortunately for them, the Upper Bracket Semifinals against Team Spirit resulted in a second loss against the two-time TI champions, this time by 2-1.
In the Lower Bracket, Aurora Gaming apparently found their rhythm and won all of their remaining matchups 2-0. First, they took down the reigning DreamLeague champions and eliminated Tundra Esports.
In the Lower Bracket Semifinal, they gained an even bigger morale boost after defeating Team Falcons, the reigning TI champions and the only team to achieve a perfect Group Stage score.
Finally, it was time for payback, as Aurora Gaming met Team Spirit in the Lower Bracket Final. After an hour-long second map, Aurora won 2-0 and overcame the final challenger before facing PARIVISION in the Grand Final.
PARIVISION Are the DreamLeague Season 29 Champions
The Grand Final started with PARIVISION taking an early 1-0 lead. The match went back and forth for almost four hours until Aurora Gaming tied the score on map four, only for PARIVISION to win map five and become the DreamLeague Season 29 champions.
This means that PARIVISION will take home a grand total of $290,000 for first place. Aurora Gaming earns another $130,000 share of the total prize pool for second place, while Team Spirit takes $105,000 for third place.
Closing Thoughts
PARIVISION fought hard and earned their way back among the top teams in professional Dota 2. Aurora Gaming did their best but let the championship slip through their fingers in the final map.
Team Spirit also seem to have found a solid foundation to build on moving forward, while Tundra Esports lost yet another crown that seemed comfortably within their grasp until now.
