Overwatch Unveils New Japanese Hero "Shion" in Cinematic Trailer
Following Blizzard's new pattern of releasing one hero per season, Overwatch will welcome a brand‑new DPS in Season 3: Shion. Revealed in a cinematic trailer as an elder of the infamous Hashimoto Clan, Shion is set to join the Overwatch roster on June 16. She becomes the fifth Japanese hero in the game and the second Damage hero from the country.
In the hero trailer, titled "End of the Line," Shion responds to a call from an associate who reports that their mission to extract an unknown weapon has been intercepted by Overwatch. Taking matters into her own hands, Shion heads to the location on her sports bike, racing through the streets of Neon Junction, the upcoming Hybrid map.
Shion makes a flashy entry into the train carrying the weapons, catching Sojourn by surprise. A fight breaks out between the two, and the Hashimoto elder ultimately emerges victorious, escaping with the weapons. After delivering them to Mauga, Shion drives off into the neon‑lit streets of Tokyo.
Shion’s Weapons, Abilities, and Appearance Explored
In the four‑minute hero trailer, we also get a few glimpses of Shion's arsenal, though her full kit has not yet been revealed. The trailer does a good job of highlighting her dual pistols, which likely serve as her primary weapon. While several Overwatch heroes wield dual guns, Shion's appear distinct, resembling a simple, grounded set of pistols.
The trailer also shows Shion using a red blade during her fight. This could be a secondary weapon, simply her melee attack, or possibly an ability. We'll have to wait for the official ability kit to know for sure.
In terms of appearance, Shion has several cybernetic features. Apart from her cyborg‑like physique, she also speaks with a distorted mechanical voice, both of which suggest she is not entirely human. Notably, she does not speak through her mouth; her voice emerges from the cybernetic adjustments on her neck, which light up whenever she talks.

While there's still a lot to discover about the new hero, the trailer gives us a solid idea of what to expect. More information is expected to surface in the coming days, whether through leaks or official reveals.
