Overwatch is set to welcome its newest Damage hero, Shion, a fierce elder of the infamous Hashimoto Clan. Armed with dual Kira Pistols, a nimble dash, and a motorcycle she isn't afraid to weaponize, Shion brings a fresh, fast-paced playstyle to the game. She will arrive in-game with Season 3: Into The Tiger's Den on June 16.

In this article, we break down Shion's full ability kit, her Minor and Major Perks, and how to make the most of her unique toolkit.

Shion's Playstyle in Overwatch

Shion certainly adds a lot of variety to the game with her unique kit. Let's start with her weapon of choice: the Kira Pistols. This unique set of dual pistols allows players to fire rapidly at enemies and deal considerable damage. Given the nature of the weapon, it likely allows for critical damage on headshots.

The Kira Pistols are also used for one of Shion's abilities, Execution, which fires an X‑shaped volley of ammunition. The gameplay trailer shows her using Execution against Reinhardt, suggesting it deals enough damage to threaten or heavily damage tanks.

The Japanese hero's most fascinating ability is arguably Joyride, which lets her ride a motorcycle, dismount, and send it flying into enemies. While Overwatch features robots, mechs, and even jetpacks, this marks the first time a traditional vehicle has been introduced into the game. It looks undeniably fun and could quickly become chaotic, especially if there's a Shion on the opposing team as well.

Shion belongs to the Flanker subclass of Damage heroes, alongside Anran, Genji, Reaper, Tracer, Vendetta, and Venture. This sub‑role's passive allows her to gain increased healing from Health Packs: 150 HP from Small Health Packs and 325 HP from Large Health Packs.

As the name implies, Flanker heroes don't fight from the frontline. Their job is to strike unexpectedly from the backline, primarily targeting supports and vulnerable DPS heroes. As a result, they are often isolated from their team, forcing them to rely on Health Packs. Shion also has a dash ability, similar to other Flankers, which can grant overhealth as well.

Shion's Perks further enhance her flanking potential. Rapid Reload reduces downtime in extended fights, while X Machina makes Execution a deadly finishing tool. At the Major tier, Refuel turns Joyride into a sustain tool and allows Shion to stay aggressive for longer, and Faces of Death grants her all other Damage sub‑role passives - Recon, Specialist, and Sharpshooter - making her a versatile threat that can track wounded enemies, reload more quickly, and cycle abilities faster.

Finally, coming to her ultimate, Satsuriku Spree lets Shion wreak havoc by charging forward and spinning into enemies three times. The gameplay trailer suggests this isn't limited to horizontal movement, as we see her charge diagonally upward into Sierra's Anchor Drone as well.

Overall, Shion's ability kit blends movement with lethal impact, allowing her to deal damage swiftly and escape unfavorable situations, doing justice to her role as a Flanker. The Japanese hero will enter the servers on June 16, and soon after her release, we'll get a better understanding of how to combo her abilities and synergize with other heroes.
