Overwatch Season 2 Operation Grand Mesa Event: Challenges, Rewards, and More

Overwatch Season 2 Operation Grand Mesa Event: Challenges, Rewards, and More

Season 2 of Overwatch is here, and with it comes a brand new event: Operation Grand Mesa. Blizzard has tied the event to the new hero Sierra, whose story unfolds as you progress through the Event Pass. Over three weeks, you can complete simple in-game challenges to earn Event XP, which unlocks rewards from the Event Pass. You'll also unlock Sierra's lore as you advance.

Operation Grand Mesa began on April 14 and will conclude on May 4. Here's everything you need to know about the event, including its challenges and rewards.

How Does the Operation Grand Mesa Event Work?

Operation Grand Mesa is a three-week event divided into two stages, each featuring a set of challenges. It also unfolds a part of Sierra’s lore across four phases. In the first set of challenges, you'll be presented with nine objectives. Upon completing them, eight more challenges will become available. Most challenges reward Event XP upon completion, while a couple of them, known as meta challenges, offer other prizes, namely: a Legendary Loot Box, an Epic Lootbox, and a player title.

The ongoing event is a great opportunity to earn Sierra-exclusive items and lootboxes with minimal effort. Most of the challenges revealed so far are straightforward and require only basic gameplay, with no hero-specific missions being needed. The meta challenges may take a bit more time, as they require you to play up to 80 matches. That said, with three weeks in total, players should be able to complete the event without any issues.

The Event Pass offers 10 rewards, each requiring 150 Event XP to unlock. In total, you'll need 1,500 XP to complete the pass. The two stages of Operation: Grand Mesa each provide a maximum of 750 XP, totaling 1,500 Event XP. Hence, you must complete all the challenges to finish the Event Pass and earn its rewards.

Overwatch Operation Grand Mesa Event Lore

AAR-01: ATTACK ON GRAND MESA

Talon launched a raid on Watchpoint: Grand Mesa. They were working with that notorious Deadlock Gang, who targeted our weapons store to give them an in.

This heist can't have been planned on a dime. Clearly, Talon wanted to stick their noses into the Naughton Vault for a reason. They were definitely after something specific, and I think they managed to make away with it. Only question now is...why?

AAR-02: NAUGHTON VAULT LOCKED DOWN

I've just received word that the Naughton Vault's been locked down. I'll hand it to Talon, they're professionals alright. They were clearly here for one thing...and they got it.

A briefcase containing the final formulation of Project Naughton's experimental serum has been reported missing. Not only are national secrets at risk, I'm one step further from finding any more clues about my mother's disappearance. For the world's sake, and for mine, we've got to get that serum back. I hate to think of what Talon's aiming to do with it.

AAR-03: POTENTIAL LEADS ON SOLDIER: 00

am so thankful that Overwatch is here to back us up. I’ve done some studying in my spare time, reading up on the Naughton program. Even today, there are active agents in Overwatch that would’ve crossed paths with Soldier: 24 and Soldier: 76.

If I chase this lead, surely someone will have information about Soldier: 00—about my mother—for me. I hope Overwatch is ready, because as soon as we get this mess cleaned up, I’m gonna be asking them a whole lot of questions.

AAR-04: OBSERVATIONS ON AGENT CASSIDY

Now I knew that cowboy Overwatch brought along looked familiar. I’ve seen Cole Cassidy’s mug all over wanted posters filed away in the Watchpoint’s archives!

Rifling through those documents shows he used to be tight with the Deadlock Gang, and I mean real tight. Well, if Overwatch trusts him, then so do I. But I gotta wonder... how easy is it really for a serial heist-puller like him to ride on the side of justice? Let’s just hope his history with those criminals won’t bite us on the behinds.
