Overwatch Season 2 Mythic Skins: Volted Overdrive Soldier 76 and Genji's Sumi-Ichimonji Weapon Arrive

Overwatch Season 2 Mythic Skins: Volted Overdrive Soldier 76 and Genji's Sumi-Ichimonji Weapon Arrive

As usual, a new Overwatch season brings a new Mythic hero skin and Mythic weapon skin at launch. Starting April 14, players can use Mythic Prisms to purchase the Volted Overdrive Soldier: 76 skin and Genji's Sumi-Ichimonji weapon. Both the hero and weapon skins cost 50 Prisms for the base version, with three additional upgrades costing 10 Prisms each. Mythic Prisms can be earned through the Battle Pass's premium track or purchased directly from the store.

Following the release of the Soldier: 76 and Genji Mythic skins at the start of the season, Ana is expected to receive an ancient Egyptian-themed Mythic hero skin in the mid-season update. Below, we dive deeper into the Volted Overdrive Soldier: 76 skin and Genji's Sumi-Ichimonji weapon.

Soldier: 76 – Volted Overdrive Mythic Skin

Soldier: 76 receives a cybernetic visual upgrade with the Volted Overdrive Mythic skin, giving him a futuristic, electricity-themed look that feels straight out of a Tron movie. His suit radiates energy and features bright, glowing arcs that appear to be a core part of the skin's design. His Tactical Visor comes equipped with neon-lit lenses, while his Heavy Pulse Rifle is overhauled into an electrified railgun.

Customization Options

  • Level 1 (50 Prisms): Mythic Skin + Ability VFX

  • Level 2 (10 Prisms): Head and Hair Customization

  • Level 3 (10 Prisms): Color Customization

  • Level 4 (10 Prisms): Ambient Skin VFX

Purchasing the base version of the skin for 50 Mythic Prisms also unlocks an Ability VFX Toggle, which gives Soldier: 76's kit a biotech feel. The second tier adds two additional hairstyle options, while the third tier introduces two new colorways: red/black and white/blue. Unlocking Level 4 provides maximum customization potential by adding an Ambient VFX Toggle, which adds a pulsing, electric energy that courses through the suit, giving the skin a truly unique look.

Genji – Sumi-Ichimonji Mythic Weapon Skin

The Sumi-Ichimonji Mythic weapon skin transforms Genji's arsenal into a living work of art inspired by traditional Japanese ink painting. The name itself references both sumi (black ink used in calligraphy) and ichimonji (a straight-line stroke). This is reflected in the weapon's design, as it features deep black ink effects that bleed and splatter during combat.

Fans on social media have suggested Oni, Snake Eyes, and Blackwatch as some of the skins that pair well with this Mythic weapon, thanks to its theme and color scheme.

Customization Options

Like all other Mythics, Genji's Sumi-Ichimonji weapon skin comes with three additional customization options, as shown below.

  • Level 1 (50 Prisms): Unlocks the base weapon skin.

  • Level 2 (10 Prisms): Eliminations enhances the weapon's effects.

  • Level 3 (10 Prisms): Unlocks the weapon flourish

  • Level 4 (10 Prisms): Final Blows

By spending 50 Mythic Prisms, players can unlock the base version of the Mythic skin. Purchasing the first customization option adds flowing splatter effects to Genji's shurikens and katana, making them radiate a menacing aura. The next level unlocks two flourish animations and allows you to spin Genji's shurikens in two unique variations. Level 4 unlocks a kill VFX that makes ink trail behind your blade as you cut through enemies.

For those unaware, you can still use the base version of a Mythic skin without unlocking any of the extra upgrades. Since Overwatch players receive only 80 Mythic Prisms per Battle Pass, and with three Mythic skins released each season, they face a tough choice: fully unlock one Mythic skin or grab the base variant and save the remaining Prisms for another Mythic.
