Overwatch Reveals Hero 51 "Sierra" in New Cinematic Trailer

Overwatch Reveals Hero 51 "Sierra" in New Cinematic Trailer

Blizzard Entertainment has revealed Overwatch's new hero 51, Sierra, in a recent cinematic trailer. Set to join the roster with Season 2 on April 14, Sierra is a DPS character who appears to have already existed within the Overwatch universe since 2021. Although not officially confirmed, the striking resemblance suggests that the upcoming hero is the American hacker introduced as Frankie in the Overwatch: Deadlock Rebels novel.

In the hero trailer, Sierra is shown fighting Emre as she attempts to prevent Talon from extracting an unknown weapon. While she initially gains the upper hand, Emre soon activates his Override Protocol. Freja is then forced to intervene, immobilizing Sierra and convincing Emre to fall back, claiming the threat has been neutralized. A disgruntled Emre leaves with Freja and the weapon, and the cinematic ends with a shot of Sierra tracking the aircraft carrying the extracted weapon.

While much of the community has pointed out that the trailer showcases more of Emre than Sierra, the cinematic does offer a few hints about the new hero's kit. We've explored those further below.

Sierra’s Weapons and Abilities Explored

Sierra Overwatch Primary Fire Weapon

Based on the animated trailer, Sierra appears to be a hitscan hero. She likely wields a plasma gun, as she seems to be shooting energy bolts rather than bullets. The cinematic also shows the new Overwatch hero using ADS (aim down sights) on her weapon to fire a single dart instead of a barrage of projectiles. This could be a secondary fire option, similar to Freja's Take Aim bolt, or an ability that tracks opponents, given her hacker background akin to Sombra.

Another intriguing aspect of Sierra's kit appears to be her ability to fire homing projectiles, as energy bolts are seen locking onto Emre during their fight on the bridge. This is likely a separate ability rather than a feature of her primary fire, as Overwatch typically reserves homing mechanics for Support heroes.

Overwatch Sierra Drone

The most eye-catching part of Sierra's kit, however, is the bird-like drone strapped to her wrist. The trailer shows two distinct applications of this device. First, the drone is seen flying around Sierra as she climbs a mountain, but moments later, she jumps and latches onto it via a tether. Visually, this resembles Jetpack Cat's Lifeline ability, though it likely functions a bit differently, allowing Sierra to carry only herself.

We also see Sierra using her drone at the end of the cinematic to track the aircraft carrying the extracted weapon. This suggests the drone is a multifunctional device and a crucial part of Sierra's overall kit.
