Blizzard is starting Season 16 of Overwatch 2 with a bang, confirming a highly anticipated collaboration with the iconic Gundam Wing anime series. Teased just days ago through the official Overwatch X account, the crossover is set to bring new skins, themed cosmetics, and potentially a surge of nostalgic excitement to both longtime Gundam fans and Overwatch players alike.

What’s in the Collaboration?

While Blizzard hasn't fully revealed the content lineup, we know for certain that Mercy will be receiving a Gundam Wing skin, as teased in the final moments of the Season 16 trailer. Based on previous collaborations, players can expect a handful of legendary skins modeled after key characters from Gundam Wing. Along with bundled with themed highlight intros, emotes, sprays, and more.

These cosmetics will most likely be available exclusively in the premium in-game shop, bundled for purchase with Overwatch Coins. While the exact number of skins remains unclear, players should be prepared for a store-focused drop rather than an earnable Battle Pass feature.

To complement the paid content, Blizzard is also expected to roll out a challenge track offering smaller rewards like Gundam-themed sprays, player icons, and voice lines — perfect for fans looking to represent the collab without spending Coins.

Release Date and Availability

The Overwatch 2 x Gundam Wing collaboration is officially launching on Tuesday, April 29th at 11:00 AM PT / 7:00 PM BST, one week after Season 16 kicks off. Following the trend of past collabs like One Punch Man and LE SSERAFIM, the Gundam-themed content will remain available for a limited time — likely around two weeks — before it rotates out of the in-game store.

Return of Peak Overwatch: October 2020 Patch Returns

Season 16 won’t just be about flashy new skins. For fans of Overwatch Classic, the beloved October 2020 patch is returning in the legacy playlist. Often cited by the community as one of the most balanced versions of Overwatch 1, this patch brings back a meta many players affectionately remember as “peak Overwatch.”

This reintroduction is part of Blizzard’s continued effort to celebrate the franchise's roots, offering a nostalgic escape alongside modern seasonal updates.

As we wait for Blizzard to unveil the full scope of the Gundam Wing collab, stay tuned — and maybe start saving your Coins.
