From the highs of the previous series to the lows of this. G2 Esports have been eliminated from the 2026 League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) by LCS representative LYON.

The 2-and-a-half-hour series was a statement victory by the latter, sending home the final LEC representative and securing their first clash against Hanwha Life Esports (HLE) in the MSI Lower Finals.

LYON Trample G2 in Latest NA-EU Face-off

Immaculate is the only way to describe the series. Across the 3 games played, LYON held tight control over the flow and gave little quarter to G2’s individuals to shine.

After dropping to the Lower Bracket via a trouncing by Bilibili Gaming (BLG), LYON took down Team Secret Whales to set up the NA-EU derby as is tradition every international.

What occurred today, however, was a beatdown. Across the board, LYON’s individuals showed up. G2’s did not.

Game 1 started off quietly. But as the game progressed, LYON showed their proficiency in the teamfights, shredding through G2 in multiple skirmishes and finding crucial picks. Kang “Saint” Seong-in’s Sylas proved the biggest difference maker, going 6/1/6 to drive home LYON’s advantage into their first point in the series.

Game 2 had G2 Esports pivot into a safe mage bot, leaning on Sergen BrokenBlade” Çelik to bring the magic on Yasuo again. Except, LYON’s top side of Niship “Dhokla” Doshi and Kacper “Inspired” Słoma combined with Saint to put G2 into the ground once again, going for a combined 17/3/21 scoreline.

Game 3 was the most egregious. Inspired’s Trundle found an angle for a Level 2 gank which collapsed any hopes of G2’s bot lane finding a footing in the series. Kim “Berserker” Min-cheol found his own moment in the series, going 11/0/7 against his counterpart’s 0/3/2.

Hanwha Life Guard the Gates; Can LYON Find Purchase?

Fresh off a BLG beatdown, the LCK’s no.1 seed await LYON in the Lower Finals. With one more spot left in the Grand Finals, LYON will have to beat their first non-Western team at the 2026 MSI if they have any hopes of securing a finals appearance.

LYON continue to impress at this tournament. Even against G2, there were multiple key players and moments from this squad who could convincingly call a case for an MVP.

Whether it was Dhokla stepping up in a big way to silence G2’s big mood maker BrokenBlade. Or Jonah “Isles” Rosario diffing Labros “Labrov” Papoutsakis all series. Saint’s incredible consistency, Inspired’s playmaking, Berserker’s clutch factor.

Now, the question is, will LYON remember to bring the magic again tomorrow against Korea’s best? Or is this the end of the road?
