Outsiders Qualify: IEM Katowice 2023 Day 7 - Group B Recap

Final day of the Group Stages in Katowice brought us the remainder of the games from the lower bracket, along with one team qualifying to the semifinals.

Group B: Upper Bracket

Game 1: Heroic vs Vitality

Heroic absolutely dominated Vitality in the series, winning it out at 2-0.

Map 1 was Inferno, picked by Vitality. Both teams had a few exchanges, but it was Heroic to come out on top at 9-6. TeSeS also managed to get an Ace in round 11. In the second half, Vitality only managed to win the pistol round, as Heroic went on to win the next 7 rounds straight to win the map 16-7.

Heroic picked Overpass for Map 2 and absolutely dominated Vitality. They ended the first half 12-3, and only allowed Vitality one round win in the second half. They closed out the map 16-4. Sjuush and jabbi had 40 kills each throughout the series.

Group B: Lower Bracket

Game 1: Fnatic vs Complexity

Complexity picked Inferno for Map 1 where they had quite the dominant T-side, ending the first half at 12-3. Fnatic did manage to find their footing, but it was too late, as Complexity won the map 16-8. Grim topped the table with 19 kills and a 1.32 rating.

Fnatic bounced right back on their pick of Vertigo. They had a decent first half at 9-6. Complexity did put up a fight in the first half, with floppy getting an Ace. However, they couldn’t do much in the second half, as Fnatic ended the map 16-9. Nicodoz led the table this time, with 23 kills, and 12 AWP kills.

Map 3 was Overpass, where Fnatic got completely destroyed. Complexity ended the first half at 12-3 again, and closed out the map at 16-3. This time hallzerk took the MVP spot with 19 kills and a 1.57 rating.

Fnatic have been eliminated from IEM Katowice.

Game 2: OG vs Outsiders

OG picked Inferno for Map 1, but it was dominated by Outsiders. They took the lead in the first half at 10-5. And they only allowed OG 2 round wins in the second half. They ended the map 16-7, following a game winning 1v3 clutch from fame.

Outsiders picked Overpass for Map 2. OG had a decent start, managing a 9-6 lead in the first half. But they were crushed quickly by Outsiders, as they got a 7 round win streak, and won the map 12-16. Jame led the table for the series with 40 kills overall.

Game 3: Complexity vs Outsiders

Second series of the day for Outsiders ends in relief as they manage to qualify for the play-offs.

Both teams were quite evenly matched in the series, as they won each other’s map picks of Anubis (picked by Complexity) and Overpass (picked by Outsiders) at 19-15 and 13-16 respectively.

Map 3 was Inferno, where Complexity had a good start at 9-6, but Outsiders managed to make the comeback on their CT-side to win the map 16-13, and qualified for the play-offs.
