In an unexpected move, CS2 has dropped an update introducing a brand‑new game mode: Rush. This fast‑paced 3v3 mode can be queued through matchmaking.

This is just the second new game mode in CS2, and the first since Premier's addition in 2023. In a way, it's also the first time we're seeing a completely new mode in the game, as Premier initially arrived in 2020 as part of Operation Broken Fang.

Ever since CS:GO's transition to CS2, the community has been requesting new gameplay content. With the release of this mode, we're finally getting content exclusive to Counter‑Strike 2.

Rush Game Mode: Objective, How to Play, and More

As mentioned, this is a queueable 3v3 mode. At the start of the match, you will be randomly assigned Terrorist or Counter‑Terrorist, and this role will carry through the entire match.

The mode's objective is similar to a standard capture‑the‑point format. The point here is a tower, which will be under the control of either the T‑side or CT‑side at round start. Both teams must either maintain control of the tower or outmaneuver and eliminate their opponents to capture it and win rounds.

Even if you manage to eliminate the entire enemy team, failing to capture the point in time will lose you the round. Similarly, you can win rounds without eliminating your opponents as long as the tower is under your control when the timer runs out.

How to Capture the Tower

Capturing the tower is simple. It will be marked on the map, and its position will be highlighted when the round starts. Which team controls the tower at the start of each round will depend on the map.

Once the round begins, if the tower is under enemy control, all you need to do is reach it, with or without eliminating opponents, and press the Interact button to gain control. If it's already under your control, simply ensure your opponents don't seize the point before the timer runs out. If the round ends with your team in control of the tower, you will move one step closer to victory.

Arena Progression

Each game has a pool of 7 maps or arenas, as shown in the image above. Teams start from the middle (4th) map, where the tower will be controlled by the CT side. The first 3 maps will always start under your control, while the last 3 will be controlled by the enemy team. The middle map will always start with the CT side in control.

The first and last arenas in the map pool are considered castles, which you must ultimately capture to be crowned the victor.

How to Win

To win the match, you must capture maps all the way up to the enemy team's castle, which is Map 7. This requires winning three or potentially four consecutive arenas where you start at a disadvantage in terms of tower control.

For instance, if you win the first arena (Map 4), you will proceed to arenas where the tower is under enemy control, such as Map 5, then Map 6 if you win again. You must win Map 7 to ultimately claim the match.

On the other hand, if you lose Map 4, you will drop to arenas where the tower is under your control, such as Map 3, and so on. Eventually, your losing streak may take you to Map 1, where another loss will end the match in defeat.

However, if you win Map 1 despite the losing streak, you will proceed to Map 2, where you will have another fighting chance. Ultimately, if you battle all the way to Map 7 and win it, you will win the match.

Maps

Currently, there are 15 unique battle arenas or maps in the Rush game mode. A random combination of 7 arenas sets the field for each match, helping keep the mode fresh by ensuring players don't get the same set of maps every game.

Here are all the maps:
