With the semifinals of PGL Bucharest 2025 now behind us, two teams have emerged to claim the spotlight—G2 Esports and Team Falcons. Up for grabs is a $200,000 prize and the chance to lift their first trophy of the year. Both squads are eager to end their title droughts as they prepare for a grueling Bo5 Grand Final.

But this final is more than just a fight for silverware. It potentially marks the final chapter of Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov's time with G2, and a start of a new era alongside Nikola "NiKo" Kovač—his former teammate, close friend, and soon-to-be ally once again under the Falcons banner.

Falcons’ Redemption Arc

Team Falcons didn’t have the smoothest start to their Bucharest campaign. Struggling during the Swiss Stage, many had written them off. But since, the Saudi-backed roster has gone on a warpath, knocking out The MongolZ to secure playoffs, and upset FaZe Clan in the semifinals.

This marks Falcons' second grand final appearance this year, having previously fallen short to MOUZ at PGL Cluj-Napoca. Now, they're hoping to turn experience into victory.

While NiKo continues to be the cornerstone of this team, credit must be shared. René "TeSeS" Madsen has proven his worth on multiple maps, but the true standout has been Abdulkhalik "degster" Gasanov.

In the semifinal against FaZe, degster played the series of his life, denying every comeback attempt and shutting down the FaZe stars with precision AWPing. He is expected to be replaced after this tournament — ironically by m0NESY, the very player he'll be facing in the final. A trophy here would be a perfect swan song for the talented Russian, adding weight to his resume as he looks for his next home.

On the other hand, Emil "Magisk" Reif's form has raised eyebrows. The 4-time Major winner looks a step behind his teammates at all time. If Falcons want to take down a near-immaculate G2, every member will need to rise to the occasion.

G2’s Statement Run

If Falcons crawled to the finals, G2 Esports bulldozed their way there. Losing just a single map throughout the entire tournament and maintaining a flawless playoff run, this team is peaking at the perfect moment.

m0NESY has been nothing short of spectacular—clutching, top-fragging, and leading G2 through every difficult round. But it's not a one-man army. Nikita "HeavyGod" Martynenko has been just as good, consistently putting up numbers and solidifying himself as a top-5 player at the event.

Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač and Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa have provided consistency and explosive rifling, making this G2 roster the most balanced it's looked all year. This is also G2’s first grand final appearance in 2025, having fallen early in previous tournaments. And this seems like the best chance to earn themselves a trophy.

The Final Duel: NiKo vs m0NESY

Beyond the tactics and mechanics, this final is drenched in emotion and narrative weight. It’s no secret that NiKo and m0NESY shared a close bond during their time together at G2. NiKo was the guiding force behind m0NESY’s early days on the roster, mentoring him through high-pressure games and critical decision-making.

That makes this match all the more bittersweet. With Major roster lock-ins due May 5th, and G2 skipping IEM Melbourne 2025, this grand final could very well be the last time we see NiKo and m0NESY face off as rivals — at least for the foreseeable future.

For m0NESY, this tournament is both a likely farewell to the G2 jersey and a performance for his soon-to-be employers. Falcons have reportedly dropped $2.5 million to secure the AWPer’s services — a jaw-dropping amount that reflects both his talent and potential. And there’s no better way for him to validate that price tag than to defeat his future teammates and deliver a trophy to his current ones.

Map Veto Breakdown

With the Bo5 format in play, each team will get one ban each, which they will use for their permabans:

  • G2 Esports is expected to ban Train.
  • Falcons will remove Anubis

Prediction: G2 to Take It All

Falcons have shown heart, firepower, and resilience. But G2 Esports looks like a team in championship form. Unless degster repeats his FaZe-level performance and Magisk elevates his game, this might be one hurdle too high for Falcons.

Final Prediction: G2 Esports 3-1 Falcons

m0NESY gets his farewell trophy, G2 gets their redemption, and NiKo—well, he’ll have to wait just a little longer.

Stay tuned for what could be one of the most emotional Grand Finals of 2025.
