G2 Esports Are the First LEC Team to Qualify for MSI 2026
Even when things don't seem to be going their way, G2 Esports still seem to pull through. In a roller coaster of a match in the Upper Bracket Finals of the 2026 LEC Spring Playoffs, G2 overcame a 0-2 deficit to complete the reverse sweep over Movistar KOI and secure their spot at MSI 2026.
A Hard-Fought Reward
After breezing past Karmine Corp in their opening match of the playoffs, G2 looked like a sure bet for today's Upper Finals bout. Led by Joseph "Jojopyun" Pyun, MKOI clearly felt they had something to say about that.
The Spanish side came up with a beautiful draft in Game 1 to get themselves ahead right off the bat. Then, a bloody second game would eventually go MKOI's way as well, leaving G2 stunned and down 0-2 in the series.
And yet, as they always do, the Kings of Europe showed why they run this region. G2 dominated Games 3 & 4 to set up a final clash to the beat of Silver Scrapes; a final game which by all means should have gone MKOI's way.
Jojo and company won team-fight after team-fight, coming just one Nexus turret away from victory. But G2 simply wouldn't back down. MKOI's failure to put G2 down proved costly in the end, with their rivals finding key engages and fights to ultimately complete a reverse sweep for the ages.
The LEC Belongs to G2
Team Vitality's Kaan "Naak Nako" Okan may have won the Regular Season MVP award, but the Playoffs belong to G2's leading man in the Mid Lane, Rasmus "Caps" Winther.
Despite a slow start to the series, Caps woke up when his team needed him most, finding ways to shut down Jojopyun in lane and consistently acting on the right plays across the map.
As for the whole of G2 Esports, their domination over the rest of the league is best explained by the simple fact that this is now their 11th consecutive Grand Finals in the LEC.
Now it's time for G2 to get it done on the international stage as well. The team already made it all the way to the Grand Finals of First Stand 2026 after an impressive sweep over Gen.G earlier this year. With their spot already booked at MSI, all eyes will be on G2 as the brightest flame in the West makes a go at international glory once more.
LEC Action Continues!
G2 may have secured their spot at MSI, but the action is far from over at the 2026 LEC Spring Playoffs. Matches resume Saturday, May 30, with Karmine Corp taking on Team Vitality, and you won't want to miss it!
