Only a few hours after their wildly disappointing exit from MSI 2026 at the hands of LYON, G2 Esports made a shocking announcement. The team's longstanding Head Coach Dylan Falco has been officially benched, and in his place, one of the most historic players in G2's history — and in all of Western League of Legends history, really — is taking over the team. That is none other than Luka "Perkz" Perković.

G2 Bench the Most Accomplished Western Coach of All Time

Dylan Falco is a man who needs no introduction. His countless LEC trophies aside, the Canadian coach has led a Western team to an international Grand Finals not once, but twice: once with G2 just months ago at First Stand 2026, and another with Fnatic all the way back at Worlds 2018.

In his nearly 5 years with G2, Dylan Falco helped make the team the single most competitive Western organization in all of League of Legends esports. But that, it seems, was not enough.

Whether G2's shocking 0-3 loss to LYON earlier today played a key role in his benching or if the decision was premeditated, the fact remains that Dylan Falco is the G2 Head Coach no more.

Perkz Rises Out of Nowhere

Five years with the team (2015-2020), a role swap, a Worlds Grand Finals appearance, and an MSI trophy; when it comes to G2's history, Perkz is nothing short of legendary.

After G2 won the 2026 LEC Spring title, it was announced that Perkz had been working with Rasmus "Caps" Winther and the rest of the team behind the scenes for some time. Fast forward one month, and he is now the team's new Head Coach in a move that absolutely nobody saw coming.

In their announcement, G2 disclosed that Perkz will be leading the team from his new position at the Esports World Cup 2026 League of Legends tournament. With the event just days away (G2 will take on FURIA on Wednesday, July 15), fans of G2 won't have to wait long to see exactly what kind of impact Perkz will have on the team right off the bat.

For now, it remains unclear if Perkz forms a part of G2's long-term plans for the Head Coach position, or if the EWC will serve as a kind of proving ground for the legendary player in this new role of his.

Team Secret Whales Eliminate Top Esports from 2026 MSI in Stunning Upset

Team Secret Whales successfully landed a decisive knockout blow against the LPL 2nd seed today. Top Esports’ elimination marks them as a first team to exit 2026 MSI in the Bracket Stage, and a stark disappointment for a team looking to make another deep run internationally. Team Secret Whales are now bound for a showdown between either Bilibili Gaming or LYON.
