FURIA Beat BETBOOM to Win Thunderpick World Championship 2026 Back-to-Back
FURIA have won their second consecutive Thunderpick World Championship title. The Brazilian team defeated BETBOOM 3-2 in Sunday's (October 18) grand final in Malta, securing their first Counter-Strike 2 trophy of 2026. The victory also earned them a combined $500,000 in prize money, split between the players and the organization.
FURIA had to come from behind to win the best-of-five (Bo5) series. After taking the opening map, they lost the next two and needed consecutive victories to claim the championship. Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo played a crucial role in the comeback, particularly on Mirage, where FURIA nearly let a commanding lead slip away.
The result repeats FURIA's achievement from 2025, when they defeated NAVI 3-2 in the tournament's grand final. This time, the Brazilians completed their championship run without losing a single series.
FalleN Delivers Crucial Play as FURIA Come Back Against BETBOOM
The grand final against BETBOOM began with a comfortable victory for FURIA on Dust2. The Brazilians controlled the economy and secured a 13-6 win, but they could not maintain that momentum across the next two maps.
On Ancient, BETBOOM's map pick, FURIA reached map point before the Russian team fought back to force overtime and eventually won 19-16. BETBOOM then took Nuke 13-9, leaving FURIA trailing 2-1 in the series.
FURIA's comeback began on Mirage. Starting on the CT side, the Brazilians built a 10-2 halftime lead and extended their advantage after switching sides. However, BETBOOM gradually fought their way back, winning several rounds despite being at a player disadvantage and eventually tying the score at 11-11.
That was when FalleN stepped up. The Brazilian captain helped FURIA win a crucial two-versus-four situation, allowing his team to regain the lead and close out Mirage 13-11.
With the series tied at 2-2, the championship came down to Cache. FURIA took control early on the T side, established an 8-4 halftime lead, and maintained their advantage after switching sides. A convincing 13-6 victory secured their second consecutive Thunderpick title.
FURIA's Road to the Thunderpick 2026 Title
FURIA opened their campaign with a 2-0 victory over BETBOOM, the team they would eventually face again in the final. They followed that result with a 2-1 win against Legacy, securing first place in Group B.
In the playoffs, the Brazilian squad swept Aurora 2-0 in the semifinals to reach the grand final for the second consecutive year. BETBOOM claimed the other spot after defeating Falcons 2-1.
The back-to-back championship also featured a familiar path from 2025. Last year, FURIA eliminated Aurora 2-0 in the semifinals before defeating NAVI 3-2 in the final, recovering from a two-map deficit to claim the title.
The Thunderpick World Championship 2026 took place in Malta from October 14 to 18, featuring eight teams competing for a $1 million prize pool.
